3 What do I need for college? Four years of English Three years of Science Three years of Mathematics Minimum of two years of Foreign Language

4 More… Three years of Social Studies Electives in the Social Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics, Foreign Language-did you take the tough courses or did you choose to take less difficult electives

5 What do colleges want? Most colleges are looking for 16 or more academic or Carnegie units You will achieve this if you take all that RBR has to offer! Honors and Advanced Placement courses are a +++!

6 Review SAT Scores Register for SAT Go to www.collegeboard.comwww.collegeboard.com Register for the November 7, 2009 test- administered at RBRHS-deadline is 10/01/09 CEEB Code: 311300 List your top four college codes on form- included in cost-MANDATORY for Admission

7 Register for ACT Go to www.act.orgwww.act.org Register for the October 24, 2009 administration-deadline: 9/18/09 Testing Sites: Keansburg HS; Keyport HS; Middletown HS North & South

8 SAT II-do I need them? Subject specific tests- www.collegeboard.com Register the same way as the SAT’s Look online or consult your counselor about the colleges/universities you are applying to and find out if you need to take them and which ones

9 NCAA-Are you a student-athlete? 11 College Applications Go to www.commonapp.org to obtain your common application-saves timewww.commonapp.org Go to www.admissions.rutgers.edu if applying to Rutgerswww.admissions.rutgers.edu Go online or call the admissions office of the colleges you are applying to get applications-most are online!

12 College Essays Write your essay-get feedback from teachers, parents, or counselor Don’t wait for the last minute to get help! Most completed an essay in junior English class-find it and have it handy.

13 Things to do: Complete the Student Self Assessment online on Naviance. Print a copy for those teachers or coaches who will also be writing a letter of recommendation Update your Resume to reflect senior year Request letters of recommendation from individuals who know you. Give a copy of Essay and Resume to Counselor

14 RBR College Application Procedures Hand in completed application Attach application fee Attach a list of all college addresses Provide 5 stamps for each college/university application Provide 2 stamps for Brookdale C.C.

15 Online Applications If you apply online, you must request all the information be sent to your school. Use online form and follow directions.

16 Scholarships Check Naviance for scholarship opportunities Bulletins listing scholarship opportunities will be posted in Guidance and Homerooms Go to www.fastweb.com for scholarship opportunitieswww.fastweb.com

17 Deadlines for Applications All applications are due to the guidance office by November 13, 2009 in order to assure that they are mailed by the Thanksgiving Recess; December 11, 2009 by the Winter Recess. When you are ready to submit applications, it is mandatory that you make an appointment with your counselor. You must give the guidance office two weeks to process your application.

18 Early Decision/Early Action Do you know what this means? You must still give the office two weeks to process your application for early action or early decision-see your counselor about this option!

19 Second Semester-what do I do now? Complete all financial aid forms for schools applied to in the fall FAFSA-mandatory!!! Go to www.fafsa.gov to apply after January 1, 2010-must have tax info for 2009 handy to complete formwww.fafsa.gov Go online prior to this date to obtain pin number CSS Form-some universities require this financial form Go to www.cssprofile.orgwww.cssprofile.org
