One of the drivers that keeps us adding new functions and features is... Copyright 2007, Information Builders. Slide 26

The “Time” Dimension of Information What HAS happened? What IS happening? What MIGHT happen?

What HAS Happened  There is a tendency to downplay the importance of “reports” as just telling us What Has Happened.  For example, I have hear some people say… “oh BI just tells you what has already happened”  This misses the point…  You get reports of WHAT has happened so that you can identify subjects to analyze WHY it has happened. Copyright 2007, Information Builders. Slide 28

To Answer the WHY Question… Copyright 2007, Information Builders. Slide 29  WebFOCUS is always working on new ways to answer this essential question to make it easier to analyze information – 1. Get to all of the sources of information to drill down to 2. Provide interfaces that are familiar, maps, visualization, Graphs, etc. 3. Provide tools for different levels of analysis, i.e. Performance Management, Rstat, etc 4. Make sure the underlying data is accurate

WebFOCUS Release 7.7 & Release 8 Copyright 2007, Information Builders. Slide 30

WebFOCUS Release 8 Key Product Initiatives  WebFOCUS Mobile **  InfoAssist Release: Advanced Web Development Tool **  New Visualization Enhancements **  Metadata Management & Efficiency improvements **  New Business Intelligence Portal  Expanded security model and options  New GUI facilities to build ‘Guided Reports’ ** ** Also in Release 7.7 Copyright 2007, Information Builders. Slide 33

Copyright 2007, Information Builders. Slide 34  InfoAssist evolves with new advanced capabilities  Initially, reporting and analysis were key areas of focus  Compose provided entre into design and creation of compound documents, e.g., PDF  Now users can design their own dashboards  Import existing reports and charts or build from scratch  Connect dashboard components via global filtering  Makes data exploration easy  Filtering on specific dashboard components  Advanced chaining, other parametric capabilities (dimensions, measures, etc.)  Add new RIA components to Active Dashboards, e.g., multiple combo boxes, tabs, etc. WebFOCUS Release 7.7 InfoAssist: Web-Based Development Tool

New Visualizations A Simple Way to Understand Data  Seeing data in different ways often helps to understand it, and see patterns that are not obvious.  Here is a sample application using the new facilities for visualization  New Release of Active Reports  New library of Flash charts  Embedded controls  New Release of Flex Enable  Build Flash Dashboards in native IDE and Integrate easily with WebFOCUS Copyright 2009, Information Builders. Slide 41

Copyright 2007, Information Builders. Slide 42 WebFOCUS Release 7.7 Enhancements for Developing BI Applications  Developer Studio: Automatic Generation of Guided Ad-hoc Applications  Goal is to reduce development time  Pre-built templates provided as starting point  New “Guided Report” report parameterizes fields, style sheets, drill-downs, sorting, report output choices, other options  A full application with launch pages, reports, filters, dashboards, and other comprehensive options is automatically generated  Easily deployed  Ideal for developers who are new to WebFOCUS  Minimal training and maintenance required

Simplified Very Detailed Formatting in PDF  Simplifying complex PDF documents  Precise alignment of subheads/subfoots/columns  Selective borders and grids  Reporting Server & Report Painter Copyright 2009, Information Builders. Slide 43 WebFOCUS Release 7.7

Sub-Reports: Simplify Merging Reports into One Report  In a single report we generally display data from one clustered set of files.  A ‘sub-report’ is a separate report, from possibly a different set of files, that is embedded in a ‘main’ report.  Usually the sub-report is placed in a sub-head, or sub-foot of the main report, and there can more than one of these.  One benefit is this is an easy way to put a graph in each sub-head of a multiple subject report. 46 WebFOCUS Release 7.7 Simplify Creating Guided Reports  Our unique ‘Guided Report’ allows a FORM to be used to present to a user a series of easy to use – point to – selections.  From the selections WebFOCUS generates a report.  The benefit of this feature is that it avoids the need to design hundreds of separate reports  All of code to do this is embedded in the FORM.  Now we will show you how this magic Guided Report is created entirely in the GUI of Developer Studio. 48 Copyright 2007, Information Builders. Slide 48  ArcGIS Server Support: Available in today’s 7.6.10 product release  Based on customer and field demand, new product strategy is to integrate with ESRI’s Flex-based map viewer  IB to deliver value-add components for bi-directional integration with ArcGIS Server  Current IB-developed viewer will not be enhanced WebFOCUS Release 7.7 ESRI Integration Innovation Iitiative

 In the classical SQL ‘chasm’ problem for example, when two parallel paths would do a Cartesian product and produce a wrong answer we now do what FOCUS users have been doing; using the MATCH process.  Now we are doing this under the covers. WebFOCUS Release 7.7 Efficiency Improvements Copyright 2007, Information Builders. Slide 49 INCOME STORE COST SUM COST AND INCOME BY STORE Savings: 250,000 records, 1000 lines output reduced from 91 seconds elapsed time to.5 seconds

Efficiency Improvement Extended  The prior example occurs in another context. Suppose we have two Fact Tables that use a common lookup table, e.g.  In this design we have two (or more) tables with no parents. (in Release &7.7 & 8 this is now allowed with our enhanced Metadata) Copyright 2007, Information Builders. Copyright 2009, Information Builders. Slide 53

WebFOCUS Release 7.7 Easy way to “crawl” a Database to index it for Magnify  Databases with lots of textual information are searched much easier with a ‘search’ paradigm rather than a form paradyne.  The problem is.. How do you get the data from the database into the search engine?  Now we have automated this process.  And it can be applied selectively as the data changes  Quick index load directly from WebFOCUS  HOLD FORMAT MAGNIFY Copyright 2009, Information Builders. Slide 54
