2 3 IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE: A.Joshua had everything in the world going for him, but still needed reassurance and, B. We see God speaking to Joshua’s specific situation, and C. We see God giving him a secret to be successful in his situation.

3 Joshua 1:1-5 1 After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. 5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

4 6 THINGS JOSHUA HAD GOING FOR HIM 1. He was the one called to bring them into the Promised Land 2. He had served under Moses for many years 3. He saw all the amazing miracles God performed through Moses. 4. He had great faith in God 5. He knew how to lead, and 6. He knew how to fight the enemy.

5 Joshua 1:6-8 6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

6 1 Kings 19:12 …a still small voice Psalm 23:2 He leads me beside quiet waters. To meditate simply means: - to reflect on the same thing over and over again, - visualize it and, - let the meaning of it sink deep down into your heart.

7 4 BENEFITS OF MEDITATING ON GOD’S WORD 1. Meditating on God's Word will give you spiritual success Joshua 1:8 (NLT) Study this Book of the Law continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed God's definition of success in life is to know Him better

Meditating on God's Word will help you keep your heart right before Him Hebrews 4:23 (NIV) The word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart

Meditating on God's Word will give you insights and wisdom that will guide you at every turn in your life. Psalm 119:99 (NIV) I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes

Meditating on God's Word will give you insights and wisdom that will guide you at every turn in your life. 4. Meditating on Scripture will help you fill your mind with the things of God. Philippians 4:8 (TLB) Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about

Feed your mind, feed your heart

13 6 WAYS TO MEDITATE 1. PICTURE it 2. PRONOUNCE it 3. PARAPHRASE it 4. PERSONALIZE it 5. PRAY it 6. PROBE it Visualize the scene in your mind Say it aloud, emphasizing a different word Rewrite the verse in your own words Glue the promise to a problem Turn the verse into a prayer Ask the questions about the verse
