3 THE CONTEXT OF HEBREWS 7 The “main point” is in 8:1 Jesus is High Priest in Heaven First mentioned in 3:1 “apostle and high priest” Heb. 1:1-4:13 Jesus as Apostle Heb. 4:14-10:18 Jesus as High Priest Heb. 10:19-13:25 Jesus as the New and Living Way

4 THE CONTEXT OF HEBREWS 7 Hebrews 5 uses Psalm 110:4 Jesus as priest Psalm 110:1 used earlier in 1:13 Jesus as king Jesus is a priest like Melchizedek 5:11-6:20 is a parenthetical admonition for their spiritual immaturity
