3 Every year, people from outside the rainforest clear huge areas of rainforest. A lot of land that was used by the tribes is now used for farming crops such as palm oil, coffee, cocoa and rubber. Forest is also cleared to make way for roads and new cities and to mine copper, zinc and diamonds. Some wood is sold abroad to make furniture and for building.
