2 Treaty of Paris of 1763 Under the treaty, Great Britain received Canada from France and Spain received all the land west of the Mississippi.

3 Treaty of Paris of 1763 Since France was no longer a threat and Spain could not afford to protect their missions, the Spanish decided to close down East Texas missions and have those people move to San Antonio. Later some returned to East Texas and built Nacogdoches without permission from Spanish government.

Spain also had Louisiana, but was forced to return it to France in Napoleon needed money to fund his army in Europe.
