Objectives -Understand what the Merchant Navy is and explain to another from memory. -Have a broad outline of what the Merchant Navy does and how. -Understand where you can find more information and be able to let others know from reference.

What is the Merchant Navy? -The Merchant Navy is the name given to the UK’s commercial shipping industry. It is made up of shipping companies that own and manage a wide range of different types and sizes of ships.

Do you know? -Where is the busiest ferry port in the world? -How many ships are in the International Merchant Navy Fleet? There are around 50,000 ships in the International Merchant Navy Fleet.

What can I do? The main jobs on board are: -Officers - Navigation (Deck), Engineering and Electro- Technical Officers -Ratings - Support staff who assist Officers -Hotel and Catering, Hospitality and Support Services on passenger ferries, cruise liners and super yachts
