3 African Network Information centre Recent Activities 2 nd Public policy meeting in Maputo: 26 and 27 April 2005 (~80 attendees) : AfriNIC-2 Election of first ASO AC representatives for the AfriNIC region. Jean Robert Hountomey Sonia Geea Discussion of new policy proposals Adoption of Fee schedule + Budget for 2005 Next meeting : 11th to 15th December 2005 in Cairo, Egypt. LIR Training: Already conducted 5 training events around the continent (in French and English) - 90 Participants in Total. Upcoming Training – Mauritius(28/09), Kenya(06/10), Libreville (18/10) Cape Town (TBD). Egypt (11/12),

5 African Network Information centre Participation to the International Technical coordination fora Three (3) representatives to the NRO NC (also acting ICANN ASO AC). The two elected in Maputo plus Alan P. Barrett appointed by AfriNIC board. AfriNIC has Joined the NRO as full member and participates in all its activities: MOU signed in April 2005 participate in the WSIS (WGIG) discussions through the NRO, Participated to Prepcom in Africa (Accra, Cairo and Dakar) to present RIR activities and AfriNIC and input to discussions on IG issues. Contributing to the African common position for the WSIS.

9 African Network Information centre Policies under discussion Temporary Assignments & assignments for critical establishments (like IXPs) Direct/PI Assignments from AfriNIC to end-user organisations Criteria for assignment of AS numbers. Global policy for IPv6 Allocation from IANA to RIRs. Status: Currently under discussion on the mailing lists (policy-wg@afrinic.net) Will be presented again at AfriNIC-3 for concensus from the community.

Based in South Africa Radha Ramphul: IT Assistant and IP Analyst (Intern) She starts September 15th Based in Mauritius Ernest Byaruhanga appointed as Registration Service Manager. Staff exchange program: AfriNIC CFO visits ARIN and LACNIC in August.
