Psychodynamic Exploration  Unconscious passing-over technique for impregnating the unconscious  The inducing of the unconscious mind – to take over your request as handed it by the conscious mind.

Indications for using an insight oriented exploratory approach:  Long standing and complex problems manifested through Multiple Symptoms.  Where there is a strong liklihood that the problem is associated with dynamic functions, purposes, historical factors and inner conflicts.

Indications for Insight – Oriented Therapy (Continued):  With psychologically minded patients who expect & prefer insight-oriented approach to treatment approach to treatment  When patients possess the impulse control and resources to tolerate insight- oriented approaches to therapy

Indications for Insight – Oriented Therapy (Continued):  When suggestive hypnotic suggestions with hypnotically responsive individuals have not yielded expected benefits and/or resistance is encountered – at a pattern search and contemplative of treatment.

Insight-Oriented Hypnotherapy may be Contraindicated with:  Situational monosymptomatic, and habit disorders (Turner disagrees).  Over intellectualizing patients who already possess insight and need to translate insight into action (Turner disagrees).

Contraindications (Continued):  With less intelligent or psychologically minded persons who do not have the Impulse-control or resources to tolerate a more insight oriented approach. (Murphy, J., 2008) (Murphy, J., 2008)

Exploratory Hypnotic Methods:  Hypnoanalytic methods may accelerate the insight oriented stage of treatment.  Hypnotic and hypnoprojective techniques may include:  Ideomotor signaling  Guided imagery  Unconscious self-image technique  Age Regression and Progression

Exploratory Methods (Continued):  Hypnotic ego-state therapy  Theater technique  Inner Advisor  Hypnotically induced dreams.

Guided Imagery or Age Progression  In a trance state, the individual is guided to positive images of a sought after experience, guided by the hypnotherapist using details, imagery, and incentives usually pre-planned by the individual and client prior to the trance induction. Commonly used for Excellence in Sports, Performance, and Endurance activities. Commonly used for Excellence in Sports, Performance, and Endurance activities.

Unconscious Self-Image Technique – a Blueprint  The Unconscious can accept your improved mental blueprint and can build in positive thoughts and actions  Your thoughts are your most fundamental and far- reaching activity  Thoughts are your mental words and are silent. They are invisibly building mental images= blueprint.  Self-image thoughts – can be changed and rehearsed in the studio of the mind.

More Guided Imagery Methods:  The “Thank You Method” – as if you already have it  The Affirmative Method – Positive self- statements made repeatedly to self  The Argumentative Method – Negative beliefs are challenged and n sickness and can be changed by changing thought patterns. You change the belief-you change the behavior.

Mental Movie Method A picture is worth a thousand words. Chinese Proverb Chinese Proverb Play the role of the actor, dramatizing this mental movie, and feel satisfied that this picture being conveyed to the unconscious – and ask that it be brought to pass in its own way. Visualizing the goal such as; a student passing the test. 14 Ego State Therapy  Ego State Therapy, a therapeutic modality that emerged in the 1970’s, is focused on working therapeutically with the polypsychic energies of the human mind.  It combines techniques of individual, family, and group therapies and has been used for the successful treatment of many  Disorders including complex post traumatic stress disorder and the dissociative disorders.

Ego State Therapy (cont.)  The co-creators believed that Ego State Therapy “should generate research hypotheses while suggesting new and as yet unobserved relations….. [and] make prior assumptions explicit” (Watkins & Watkins, 1997). They assumed that future neurobiological studies would confirm their theories. ( Frederick, C. 2009)
