1 Collectivisation By Christian,Kevin and Daphne

2 What is collectivisation? The Toz: peasants owned the land but shared the machinery and co-operated in activities such as sowing and harvesting The Sovkhoz: Owned and run by the state, the peasent were paid just like factory workers The Kolkhoz: Then land was held in common and run by a elected committee between 50-100 households were put together, so land tool and livestock had to be pooled. The peasants farmed the land was one unite, but each house hold was allowed to keep its own private plot of up too one acre.

3 Why collectivize: 1929 less than 5% of peasants were on collective or state farms Land could be farmed more efficiently Machinery would be supplied by the state The net resolute would be a much higher food production Mechanized agriculture would require fewer peasants. There would be fewer collection points and each farm would have communist supporters knowing how much had been produced It’s the socialist solution for agriculture

4 How was it carried out? Used terror and propaganda Prosecution of kulaks ( richer peasants) to scare other peasants into joining kolkhozes Army of 25’000 urban activists was sent to the country side to revolutionizes the country side Decree of February 1 st 1930 gave local party organizations the power too use “necessary measures” against the Kulaks
