2 Enter your last name and the barcode number on the back of your UMaine card to connect to online databases Your UMaine card should be automatically linked with library databases when you register Connecting to Online Sources

3 Connecting to Online Resources Call circulation at 581-1641 if your account is not working

4 Locate ERIC (EBSCO) by going to Fogler Library’s web site Go to Find Articles & Journals Click on the link for Indexes and Databases and then click on E and Scan for ERIC (EBSCO) Connecting to ERIC Online

5 The default setting is for Smart Text Searching Enter your search terms Searching ERIC

6 You can click on the link for Advanced Search to get more boxes Put terms that are not part of a phrase into different search boxes Searching ERIC

7 The weakness of phrase searching is that you may forget and put unrelated terms in the same box Do not use phrase searching with unrelated terms unless connect them with AND Weakness of Phrase Searching

8 To perform a Google-like search you need to use Smart-Text Searching Click on the box under Search Modes to select Smart-Text Searching Smart-Text Searching

9 Limiting Your Search You can limit any search to peer review You can also limit to full-text within EBSCO

10 Limiting Your Search If you limit to full-text in EBSCO you will miss full-text from other Fogler subscriptions

11 Limiting Your Search You can limit any search to specific year ranges You can any search to a specific journal title

12 Using the Search Button Click on the Search button after you have finished entering search terms and setting limits.

13 Narrowing Your Search Results Links to narrow results are on the left hand side in green Click on links under Subject to narrow your results by descriptors in ERIC

14 Narrowing Your Search Results Click on links under Publication to narrow results by journal title, etc.

15 Examining the Results Click on the title to read the abstract Click on any of the following for direct links to full text: o PDF Full Text o Linked Full Text o Full Text from ERIC

16 Full Text using Article Linker Click on the button for Article Linker to access online subscriptions outside of EBSCO Click on the link for University of Maine Click on the link for Article

17 Article Linker for Print & Interlibrary Loan Click on step two in Article Linker to view our print holdings Click on step three in Article Linker to request the article through Interlibrary loan

18 Saving, Emailing and Printing You can print, email, or save the full-text. If the email function does not work, save to desktop and attach to an email. Do NOT save a link, this will not work later

19 Using Folders Save results in a temporary folder by clicking on the Add to Folder link below the article title Items in folder may all be saved to your computer, emailed, or printed

20 EBSCOhost Accounts To save in a permanent folder you must get an EBSCOhost account Click on the link to Sign In at the top of the screen in the blue strip Then click on the link for Create a New Account

21 EBSCOhost Accounts Full text from EBSCO will be in the folder. Full-text outside of EBSCO can be accessed using Article Linker

34 My WilsonWeb Full text from Education FullText will be in the My WilsonWeb. Full-text outside of Education FullText can be accessed using Article Linker
