Scroll down until you see “Voice” on the left hand side of the screen under Home & Office 1. Click “Voice” 1. Click “I want a new #” 1. Choose the number based on zip (or if you want to be creative you can try to spell out a word. It is preferable a # 1. Follow the instructions… enter a pin etc. 1. Enter in your home # or cell (we will be able to turn off forwarding later, but don’t think school will work if you have an extension) Alternative Ways to Assign Homework or Conduct Assessment

3 10. ** Google Voice will call you within a few minutes at the number your #. When they call you need to answer. Please be sure that you will be ready to answer when you set up the account. 11. You may choose to record the greeting at this time or you can go back later and do the recording. 12. This step is important – to stop call forwarding (to prevent all their phone calls from going to your personal number) – On the left hand side, click on your phone number. (It says “ Your number 919-xxx-xxxx 13. On the top-middle of the window (not the screen) you will see “Calls”, click on that on scroll down to enable “Do not Disturb”. If you check “do not disturb” you should not get calls forwarded to your home number you used to verify the account in step 9. 14. Under “Voicemail & Text” (right next to “Calls” you can elect to have voicemail alerts sent directly to your email, or uncheck if you don’t want those alerts sent to your inbox. If you have a large class, you may want to uncheck this, but it helps to know how many people are doing the assignment. (Afterward I just delete the emails)

4 To listen to your messages: Click “Voicemails” on the left hand side. * You need to go to More, Even More, Google Voice, Voicemails to listen to messages. * Once I’ve graded a message, I usually “star” it so I know I graded it. * The first time we practice I will usually play a few for the class as examples. * Remind kids to say their first and last name right from the start. * It is recommended if they make an error to pause and keep going-- you don’t want them calling you over and over!
