2005 June 2260th Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy Outflows and Magnetic Fields in L1448 IRS3 Woojin Kwon Leslie W. Looney Richard M. Crutcher Jason M. Kirk University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

L1448 IRS3 (A, B, &C)  Perseus molecular cloud complex (~300 pc)  70" northwest of L1448mm  In blue-shifted lobe of outflow of L1448mm  Three Class 0 sources resolved at =3mm (Looney et al. 2000)  One or two outflows (e.g. Bachiller et al. 1990, 1995; Barsony et al. 1998)  No clear observation… L1448 mm A C B

Observation  Polarimetry using BIMA  CO 2-1 (230.538GHz) continuum (~ 1mm)  C configuration Beam 2.5" x 4.5" Ch. width 4 km/s  2003 Oct. & Nov.

Continuum Emission (~1mm)  L1448 IRS3 A: 0.3 M ⊙ B: 1.7 M ⊙ C: < 0.05 M ⊙ Optically thin Gas = 100 x Dust T = 35 K, β = 1 A B C

Outflows of L1448 IRS3  Integrated intensity map Red 25~9 km/s Black 9~1 km/s (V LSR = 5km/s) Blue 1~ -19 km/s (L1448 mm Contamination)  A: nearly perpendicular to LOS PA 155° North: 0.001 M ⊙ = R0.0002 + Bk0.0008 South: (part of Bk0.0016 M ⊙ )  B: +20~ -30 km/s outflow, PA 105° Red-shifted: R0.0005 M ⊙ + (part of Bk0.0016 M ⊙ ) Blue-shifted: B0.0012 M ⊙

Vectors: B field direction L1448 in 850 μm, SCUBA Magnetic Field in Continuum Produced by J. Kirk from SCUBA archive data ~5% polarization in center Vectors: polarization direction

Magnetic Field in CO 2-1 CO 2-1  Intensity map 2 ch.(1~9 km/s) combined Polarization direction Outflow direction  Goldreich-Kylafis effect (e.g. Kylafis, 1983)  ~ 10% polarization

Summary and Discussion  Clear results showing two outflows from A and B  Marginal detection of polarization in continuum and CO 2-1  Excellent region for star formation Nearly perpendicular outflow Binary system Star formation triggered by outflows  Really perpendicular?
