GEOMETRY 6.G.1 VOCABULARY Mrs. Thompson Level 1

Review Words Side: A line bounding a geometric figure: one of the faces forming the outside of an object Vertex: On an angle or polygon, the point where 2 sides intersect Perimeter: the distance around a polygon Perpendicular: lines that intersect to form right angles Parallel: Lines in a plane that do not intersect Congruent: having the same size and shape

Polygon A closed plane figure formed by 3 or more line segments that intersect only at their endpoints(vertices). Examples Non-Examples

Classify Polygons

Quadrilateral A Four(4) sided polygon ExampleNon-Example

Special Quadrilaterals

Triangles

Parts of shapes

Parts of a triangle defined Height: a perpendicular distance from the base to the opposite vertex (or side in a triangle) Leg: In a right triangle, the sides that include the right angle; in an isosceles triangle, the pair of congruent sides Base: a side of a polygon Hypotenuse: In a right triangle, the side opposite the right angle

Need to know CONCEPTS Dimension: The length, width, or height of an object Area: The number of square units needed to cover a given surface Composing: to make or put together Decomposing: to take apart
