3 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 Major Changes to AC Brand new RIR! As a result, new representatives on AC ICANN Reform This is an ongoing activity Soon to be done Nominations Committee Formalization of AC Processes New faces on the Address Council

4 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 ASO Address Council Address Council 3 representatives per RIR region Representatives do not represent RIRs directly AC nominees Not necessarily an RIR member All can participate in elections... Not limited to RIR members The role of the AC will be changing To meet new challenges To adapt to the new ICANN structure

6 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 ASO Address Council LACNIC RIR status officially recognized at Shanghai ICANN Meeting, October 2002 LACNIC has been a full participant in the Address Council with Observer status since the formation of the ASO AC LACNIC region have elected 3 representatives to the AC, and they have had full voting privileges since November

7 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 The New ASO Address Council Three new members of the AC! Elected and Seated November of 2002 Raimundo Beca (Chile) Hartmut Glaser (Brazil) Julian Dunayevich (Argentina) 12 total voting members

8 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 ASO Address Council Continued to observe progress in the establishment of AFRINIC new RIR. AFRINIC representatives have participated in current ASO activities and in the ICANN reform process

9 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 ASO Address Council Other Activities Establishing standard BoD selection process (to be published shortly for public comment) Establishing a standard process for nominating representative to NomCom Discussion ongoing to review RFC 2050 and its current relation to active policy. 10 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 ASO Address Council Working on a new strategy to promote international participation Electronic voting Workshops and information gathering sessions Chair is circulating a Roadmap Document to the AC for 2003 Held a workshop in Amsterdam in January

11 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 ASO Address Council AC is working with the RIRs on ICANN reform process discussions Stand ready to facilitate/work with the RIRs and ERC in negotiation for a new MoU in the reform environment RIRs have asked for formal input AC has met informally with ICANN ERC Working on a principles document

12 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 Nomination Committee ICANN has a Nominations Committee Nominates people to the ICANN BoD AC is responsible for one delegate Election took place in February 2003 Please to have German Valdez Started work on NomCom immediately Call for nominations has been issued

13 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 Roadmap for 2003 January - March 2003 Hold Address Council workshop Elect Address Council chair for 2003 Elect ICANN NomCom representative Participate in negotiations/discussions between RIRs and ICANN ERC Draft formal election procedures for ASO AC elected representatives (Board, NomCom, ASO AC Chair)

14 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 Roadmap for 2003 April - June 2003 ASO Annual General Assembly Discuss and propose procedures for electronic voting Assist and facilitate discussion of ASO AC roles/structure in new ICANN/RIR environment Facilitate discussion of first round of RFC 2050 replacement documents Complete definition of process for elections (Board, NomCom, Chair) and submit for community review

15 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 Roadmap for 2003 July - September 2003 Consider and possibly plan a second ASO AC workshop to be held in quarter four of 2003 Complete all work on election process

16 ICANN ASO – Santiago April 2003 Roadmap for 2003 October - December 2003 Nominate and facilitate discussion of new representative to ICANN Nominations Committee Nominate Address Council chair for 2004 Plan for ASO AC workshop in early 2004 Facilitate discussion of second round of RFC 2050 replacement documents Provide input into the ICANN 2004 budget process
