The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People  Published in 1989, this book is still relevant today.  In 2011, Time magazine declared it one of the 25 most influential business management books.  Sold more than 15 million copes and 1.5 million audio versions.  Focuses on developing independence and interdependence

Habit 1: Be Proactive Take initiative in life by realizing that your decisions (and how they align with life’s principles) are the primary determining factor for effectiveness in your life. Take responsibility for your choices and the consequences that follow

Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind Identify and clarify the values and life-goals that are most important to you. Envision the ideal characteristics for each of your roles and relationships in life

Habit 3: Put First Things First You must learn to manage yourself. No one else can do it for you. Implement activities that aim to reach your life-goals. If habit 2 is the plan, habit 3 is the action

Habit 4: Think Win-Win Strive for mutually beneficial solutions or agreements in your relationships. Value and respect others by understanding that everyone winning is a better solution than one person getting their way.

Habit 5: Seek to Understand, Then Seek to be Understood Use empathic listening to truly understand a person, which will compel others to try to listen to you. Listening and being open- minded creates an atmosphere of caring and problem solving.

Habit 6: Synergize Combine the strengths of people through positive team work to achieve goals no-one can do alone. Network and help other people as they help you.

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw Balance your life and renew your resources, energy and health to create a sustainable lifestyle. Renew yourself by making time for multiple activities such as, exercise, meditation/prayer, good reading, and service. This gives you opportunity for consistent growth and gets you on an “upward spiral.”
