This demonstration will show you what the special features in Springer‘s online catalog are and how to use them. Specifically, you will see how to search for titles, save your search and download the result to your local drive. You will also see when the different features should be used and why the differences are important. Advice has a symbol. To give sales representatives an understanding of all features, a case study is integrated in this presentation. Greetings

The library has a budget limit of 250 Euros per item and wants immediate delivery. 2. How to select your criteria? - Case Study

Cortes| Oct. 2008 After clicking on a subject to find its subcategories, a window will pop up where you can refine the selected topic: – Just click the box next to the required subcategories and save your choice at the bottom of the window. 2. Cortes| Oct. 2008 Since the library wants new books, look for anything published since the beginning of the year: – Enter 01/2008 in the input field Publication Date From. It is advisable to set an end date in the future if you also select not yet published availability. Otherwise you will find titles years in advance. 2. You also have the choice to select only titles that have prepublication prices or to search for sales prices. 2. How to select your criteria? - Price

15 15 Customized Catalog| S. Cortes| Oct. 2008 To add a title, for instance an older book that the university library requested, write the ISBN in the Add ISBN box. It is possible to add up to 100 ISBNs in comma separated format by cut and paste into this box. Remember to click the box add ISBN to complete this step! To exclude one title from the list at this point, click on the box next to it before saving the search. 3. How to change your list of results?

16 16 Customized Catalog| S. Cortes| Oct. 2008 To save the search enter any name you want and click save. – For example, enter “library in stock, new 2008“. It is advisable to create your own naming covention so you will recognize searches later. The system adds the date. 4. How to save and log in?

17 17 Customized Catalog| S. Cortes| Oct. 2008 After you clicked save, you will be asked to log in to the Springer.com website. – If you do not yet have a password, you will be asked to log in as a New Customer. – Enter your user name and password and click continue. 4. How to save and log in?

18 18 Customized Catalog| S. Cortes| Oct. 2008 When you log in, you will automatically be shown “My Search“. This is the page where all your saved searches are listed. This page also shows your Customized Catalogs. They are saved up to 2 months after being produced. 5. How to manage your saved searches?

19 19 Customized Catalog| S. Cortes| Oct. 2008 It is important to note that MY SEARCH does not export or download the list. However, it does save all the settings and tell you the last date that you ran the search. In this way, you can re-run the same searches and get updated product information at a later time, for example prices and publication dates. To get an updated Customized Catalog, you must re-run a selection and produce a new catalog. 5. How to manage your saved searches?

Cortes| Oct. 2008 At this point you can either go back to the search result again to export it or go back to the search page to start a new search. – Go back to the search result by clicking on the underlined name of the search. Watch out for the checkbox, it is only used for deleting. 5. How to manage your saved searches?

Cortes| Oct. 2008 The drop-down box next to the export button gives you five different formats to choose from: – 2 PDF formats – 2 csv formats – excel order form Click on the format you want and click the export button. It is advisable to make your search as specific as possible. Exports are limited to 2000 titles. 6. How to export the title selection? - Formats

24 24 Customized Catalog| S. Cortes| Oct. 2008 The excel order form gives you a pre- formatted excel file, which you can use if you are in a hurry. Selling tip: Export your search results as an orderform and give it to your customers together with a Customized Catalog. 6. How to export the title selection? - Excel

25 25 Customized Catalog| S. Cortes| Oct. 2008 If you chose one of the two csv formats or the Excel orderform, you have the option of opening the file immediately, or saving to your hard drive first. But you can open and export one of these three formats only if you are logged in as a bookseller. 6. How to export the title selection? – CSV & Excel

26 26 Customized Catalog| S. Cortes| Oct. 2008 To export one of the two PDF formats, you must enter an email address. Additionally, you will be asked to enter your cover page information and you can upload a logo. Both logo and contact data will show up on the cover page of your customized catalog. If you are logged in as a bookseller, the cover page information will be saved (My Springer: Your bookseller data) and automatically filled in the next time. If you do not have the status of a bookseller, you must enter your data each time. It is advisable to enter a short title because it is limited to 30 characters. Otherwise the title will be cut off in the PDF. The two catalogs are the only formats that you can export without being logged in and without having the status of a bookseller. 6. Depending on the size of the file, you receive either your catalog as an attachment or a link which leads you to your catalog. 6. How to export the title selection? - PDFs
