People Wonder (?) Our Particular Tradition ? Don’t Believe in Music ? Wish to be Argumentative ? QUESTION:

“Instrumental music and atonement are not of the same status or consequence to the human soul and its eternal welfare.” (September 2003)

Instruments were Authorized / Commanded

Instruments are NOWHERE mentioned

Instruments are Not authorized the New Testament Instruments were authorized in the Old Testament

2 Chronicles 29:28-29 So all the assembly worshiped, the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded; all this continued until the burnt offering was finished. And when they had finished offering, the king and all who were present with him bowed and worshiped. 2 Chronicles 29:30 Moreover King Hezekiah and the leaders commanded the Levites to sing praise to the LORD with the words of David and of Asaph the seer. So they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshiped.

Hebrews 9:26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Colossians 3:15-16 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Matthew 26:27-28 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26:30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Hebrews 10:12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, Hebrews 13:15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.

Psalms 22:1, 16, 22 My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?... They pierced My hands and My feet... I will declare Your name to My brethren; in the midst of the assembly I will praise You. Hebrews 2:12 I will declare Your name to My brethren; in the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.

Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.  Levites played the instruments ~ 1 Chronicles 23:5; 2 Chronicles 7:6  While the offering was being presented ~ 2 Chronicles 29:27  Instruments were named: Cymbals, stringed instruments, harp, trumpet ~ 2 Chronicles 29:25-28

Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.  “He takes away the first that he may establish the second” ~ Hebrews 10:9  “... There is no longer an offering for sin” ~ Hebrews 10:18  “Therefore by him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips...” ~ Hebrews 13:15

What about instruments of music in the book of Revelation?  “the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense...” (5:8)  “And I heard the sound of harpists playing their harps” (14:2; also 15:2)  “And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets” (8:2)

Revelation 1:1 “And he sent and signified it by his angel to his servant John...”  Not rational to conclude bowls of incense, beasts, horsemen, dragon, etc. figurative, but harps and trumpets are literal!  Many O.T. symbols in Revelation that are not in the church – temple, tabernacle (15:5)  We better not add to what God has said (22:19), by making the figurative literal!
