2 Mesopotamia  “The Land Between the Rivers”  Tigris & Euphrates Rivers  Thought to be the location of the Garden of Eden.  Located in Modern Day Iraq  Land was fertile, and produce an surplus of food.

4 Assignment Part 1: Problems  Identify the issues that Sumerians faced with living in Mesopotamia Solutions  Explain the solutions that the Sumerians came up with to solve their issues. Hint: Sec 1 – Page 29 & 30

5 City-States  Functioned as independent country  Cities were surrounded by fields of barley and wheat  Priest and Rulers controlled the city-states  Sometimes they were military led.

7 Hammurabi’s Code of Laws 8. If a man has stolen an ox, a sheep, a pig, or a boat that belonged to a temple or palace, he shall repay thirty times its cost. If it belonged to a private citizen, he shall repay ten times. If the thief cannot pay, he shall be put to death.

If he puts out he eye of a freed man or break the bone of a free man, he shall pay one gold mina. 199. If he put out the eye of a man’s slave, or break the bone of a man’s slave, he shall pay one-half of its value.
