Movement Skill Analysis (worth 20% of final grade) HHP 395 Assignment

Overview Choose 2 partners (i.e. groups of 3) and analyze the performance techniques involved in a specific sport skill or exercise approved by the instructor.

Requirements Written assignment: – Design a 1-page professional handout for the class Length – Content should span front and back of 1 page Content – Biomechanical highlights and interesting aspects of the analysis (cannot be an outline of the PowerPoint slides) – Minimum of four (4) professional, refereed references in APA format must be included on the handout » (4) FULL-text PDF references MUST be posted to Bb prior to the presentation » Abstracts do not count as one of the 4 references Grade – Handout will be critiqued for content and professionalism – Neatness counts

Requirements PowerPoint presentation: – Length Minimum: 12 minutes Maximum: 15 minutes – The use of tables, figures, photos, video clips, and/or demonstrations is highly encouraged. Video clips must be ≤ 1 minute. **Presentation Schedule TBA**

Movement Skill Analysis Breakdown Example Step 1 - Determine the objectives of the skill. Step 2 - Note any special characteristics of the skill. Step 3 - Study top-flight performances of the skill. Step 4 - Divide the skill into phases: – Phase 1 - Preparatory movements and mental set. – Phase 2 - Wind-up (or backswing). – Phase 3 - Force-producing movements. – Phase 4 - Follow-through (or recovery). Step 5 - Divide each phase into key elements. Step 6 - Understand the mechanical reasons each key element is performed in this manner. Take note: this is a good example of too much text on a slide.

Slide #1 - Introduction: title, name, date. Slide #2 - Objectives of the skill. Slide #3 - Special considerations of the skill. Slide #4 - Divide the skill into phases: – For each of the four phases you should include the following: Include key elements, biomechanical principles, planes, musculature, common errors, exercises, and mechanical basis of the performance. What primary biomechanical principles are used in each phase (illustrate)? What plane(s) of motion is/are used in each phase? What biomechanical errors are commonly found in each phase? Slide #5 - Phase I: Preparatory movements and mental set. Slide #6 - Phase II: Wind-up (or backswing). Slide #7 - Phase III: Force-producing movements. Slide #8 - Phase IV: Follow-through (or recovery). Slide #9 - Summary. Slide #10 - References. PowerPoint Slide Examples Take note: this is a good example of too much text on a slide.
