2 WELCOME! Congratulations on being a new or surviving nursing student! Nursing School is an exciting adventure that will lead you to a rewarding career as a Registered Nurse, and becoming involved in a professional student organization is an important step you can take to ensure your success! Please take a few minutes to get to know your state and national Student Nursing Organizations and learn how to join!

3 WSNA : Our State Organization Nonprofit organization for students enrolled in accredited nursing programs in the state of Wisconsin (ADN, BSN, or diploma). The State Board of Directors is made up of nursing students from through-out Wisconsin. (Elected State Conventions) and also 3 consultants. By joining WSNA, you AUTOMATICALLY become a member of our National Student Nurses’ Organization!!! (WSNA membership = NSNA membership)

4 NSNA: Our National Organization Is a nonprofit organization for students enrolled in ADN, BSN, diploma, and/or graduate nursing programs in the US, District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, & the Virgin Islands. 50,000 nursing students belong to NSNA National Board of Directors is made up of nursing students from around the country that are elected at the National Convention

5 NSNA’s Mission Statement Bring together and mentor students preparing for initial licensure as registered nurses, as well as those enrolled in baccalaureate completion programs; Convey the standards and ethics of the nursing profession; Promote development of the skills that students will need as responsible and accountable members of the nursing profession; Advocate for high quality, evidence-based, affordable and accessible health care; Advocate for and contribute to advances in nursing education; Develop nursing students who are prepared to lead the profession in the future.

6 WSNA’s Mission Statement to assume responsibility for the contributing to nursing education in order to provide highest quality health care; to coordinate fundraising activities in order to provide charitable contributions and scholarship funds to promote the nursing profession; to provide programs representative of fundamental and current professional interests and concerns; to aid in the development of the whole person, his/her professional role and his/ her professional responsibility for the health care of people in all walks of life.

10 WSNA’s Midyear Conference This annual event is held in conjunction with the Wisconsin Nurses Association each fall. This event attracts registered nurses, nursing students, guests, faculty, and nursing leaders from across Wisconsin The conference offers professional development activities, an exhibit hall, and educational sessions. The 2008 FALL WSNA/WNA Conference will be held in Eau Claire, Wisconsin from October 16-18, 2008.

11 NSNA’s Midyear Conference This annual event attracts 1,500 nursing students. The conference offers professional development activities, career counseling, exhibits, Keynote Address, Specialty Nursing Career Panels and career development workshops. The 2008 MidYear Conference will be held at John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino Resort in Reno, Nevada from November 13-16, 2008.

12 WSNA’s Annual Convention  Each February, nursing students from around the State meet for WSNA’s annual convention, which has traditionally been held at the Kalahari Resort in WI Dells, WI.  Students can run for a position on the WSNA Board of Directors. Elections are held on the last morning of convention.  Official WSNA Business takes place during The House of Delegates, which meets during the Annual Convention.  Professional development activities, an exhibit hall, and educational sessions are also held at convention. 2009 WSNA Annual Convention Friday February 13 th - Sunday February 15 th Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI

13 NSNA’s Annual Convention  Each year, over 3,000 nursing students the annual convention, which is held each year in a major U.S. city.  Students attend educational programs, participate in leadership and professional development activities, attend an Awards Ceremony, Fundraising Auction, and Exhibits.  Official NSNA Business takes place during The House of Delegates, which meets during the Annual Convention. The 57 th Annual NSNA Annual Convention will be held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tennessee, April 15-19, 2009. Theme: “Making it Big: Nursing Students Stepping Up and Stepping Out.” Keynote Speaker: Carol Romano, Chief Nurse of the U.S. Public Health Service.
