Graphic Design Logos

Graphic Design - Logos  One important area of graphic design is Logo Design - the art of visual identity.

Graphic Design - Logos What is a logo  A logo is a sign, symbol, trademark or badge which conveys the identity or ownership of a product, company, campaign or concept in as memorable a way as possible.

Graphic Design - Logos How are logos used  A logo can be used in many different forms, sizes and contexts.  For example, the logo for a hotel could be printed on a letterhead or menu, embroidered onto a napkin or jacket, embossed on metal cutlery or illuminated as a huge neon sign on the side of the building.

Graphic Design - Logos What are the basic qualities of a logo  A logo should be simple so that it retains its clarity of design in different contexts.  If it is too complicated, its details may be lost when it is reduced in scale.  Also, a simple logo design is faster to read, easier to remember and consequently more instantly identifiable.

Graphic Design - Logos What is the main function of a logo?  A logo should convey an immediate and memorable identity and must connect with its target audience in a positive manner.

Graphic Design - Logos  Over the last century, our lifestyles gradually became more complex.  Conversely, the design of logos became simpler for ease and speed of recognition in a faster world.

Graphic Design - Logos  The evolution of the Shell Logo throughout the 20th century clearly demonstrates this effect.

Graphic Design - Logos  Three types of logos Iconic/Symbolic Icons and symbols are compelling yet uncomplicated images that are symbolic of a particular company or product.

Graphic Design - Logos  Three types of logos Logotype/Wordmark Logos are created using various types of fonts. Type fonts come in thousands of possible variations, shapes, sizes, and styles, each conveying a slightly different impression upon your intended audience.

Graphic Design - Logos  Three types of logos Combination Marks Combination Marks are graphics with both text and a symbol/icon that signifies the brand image that you wish to project for your company or organization.

2.Decide on the Design Size, material, 2D or 3D What design programs can you use?

3.Brainstorm Ideas Record a list of all your groups ideas with respect to design and creation of the logo You may want to create a chart for all your potential solutions

4.Choose the best solution Which idea is most effective in meeting the objective? Which idea is doable?
