2  Born in Louisiana 1961  Performed traditional New Orleans music at Fairview Baptist church at 8  Performed in many jazz and classical groups throughout high school  Admitted to Tanglewood’s Berkshire Music Center, age 17  Juliard 1979  Made own band in 1981, went on road for 15 years  Sparked new interest in jazz music internationally EARLY LIFE

3  Loved classical music, performed trumpet concertos, won Grammy Award for “Best Classical Soloist with an Orchestra.”  Worked with many philharmonics and orchestras  Has produced 70+ records, three have gone gold  Emphasis on blues and jazz  Virtuosic trumpet technique  30+ musical degrees from colleges worldwide CAREER
