COURSE DESCRIPTION NORTH OCONEE HIGH SCHOOL PROVIDES DANCE AS A CREATIVE AND REWARDING ART EXPERIENCE WHERE ARTISTIC INTEGRITY AND APPRECIATION ARE DEVELOPED. FOR THE BEGINNING DANCE STUDENT, THIS COURSE OFFERS A FOUNDATION IN THE HISTORY, THEORY, AND PERFORMANCE TECHNIQUES IN A VARIETY OF STYLES THAT CAN INCLUDE CLASSICAL BALLET, JAZZ/HIP-HOP, MODERN/LYRICAL, MUSICAL THEATRE, BALLROOM DANCE, AND TAP. FOR THE INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED DANCER, IT OFFERS EXTENSION IN DANCE HISTORY, THEORY, AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES.

COUSE OBJECTIVES COURSE OBJECTIVES: IDENTIFIES AND DEMONSTRATES MOVEMENT ELEMENTS, SKILLS, AND TERMINOLOGY IN DANCE UNDERSTANDS AND MODELS DANCE ETIQUETTE AS A CLASSROOM PARTICIPANT, PERFORMER, AND OBSERVER. RECOGNIZES CONCEPTS OF ANATOMY AND KINESIOLOGY IN MOVEMENT UNDERSTANDS AND APPLIES MUSIC CONCEPTS TO DANCE DEMONSTRATES AN UNDERSTANDING OF CREATIVE/CHOREOGRAPHIC PRINCIPLES, PROCESSES, AND STRUCTURES

DEMONSTRATES AN UNDERSTANDING OF DANCE AS A WAY TO CREATE AND COMMUNICATE MEANING DEMONSTRATES AND UNDERSTANDS DANCE IN VARIOUS CULTURES AND HISTORICAL PERIODS RECOGNIZES CONNECTIONS BETWEEN DANCE AND WELLNESS INTEGRATES THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY AND NEW MEDIA DEMONSTRATES AND UNDERSTANDS DANCE AS IT RELATES TO OTHER AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE

DANCE COURSE REQUIREMENTS DANCE CONCERT: ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN AN EVENING DANCE CONCERT, WHICH SERVES AS A SHOWCASE OF THE STUDENTS’ HARD WORK AND GAINED PROFICIENCY IN THE ART OF DANCE. PERFORMANCES ARE CONSIDERED ASSESSMENTS FOR THE CLASS. THERE IS AN ALTERNATE ASSIGNMENT, BUT ARRANGEMENTS WILL NEED TO BE MADE AHEAD OF TIME. FALL DANCE CONCERT MONDAY DECEMBER 7 TH 6:00PM (PUT THIS IN YOUR CALENDAR RIGHT NOW)

DANCE COURSE REQUIREMENTS DANCE FOLDER: STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO TAKE NOTES DURING LECTURE CLASSES. THESE NOTES ALONG WITH OTHER PROJECTS WILL BE THE CONTENTS OF THIS PORTFOLIO. THIS PORTFOLIO MAY BE LEFT IN THE DANCE ROOM. LET”S TAKE A BREAK AND DO THIS NOW

DANCE COURSE REQUIREMENTS DANCE ATTIRE: STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO DRESS OUT DAILY. DRESS OUT CLOTHES SHOULD FOLLOW THE SCHOOL’S DRESS CODE. NO DANCE SHORTS OR THIN STRAPPED TANKS LET’S TAKE A SECOND AND TALK NOHS DRESS CODE.

DANCE COURSE REQUIREMENTS DANCE PARTICIPATION: THIS IS A PERFORMANCE BASED CLASS. THEREFORE, YOU MUST ATTEND SO THAT YOU MAY DANCE. YOU MUST ALSO PARTICIPATE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE DAILY CREDIT. FAILURE TO DO SO WITHOUT A PARENT OR DOCTOR NOTE WILL RESULT IN POINTS OFF PER DAY. EACH WEEK IS A POSSIBILITY OF 100 POINTS. IF YOU ARE ABSENT, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO COMPLETE THE DAILY MAKE-UP WORK LOCATED ON MOODLE. IF YOU ARE SITTING OUT DUE TO ILLNESS OR INJURY, YOU MUST TAKE NOTES ON THE CLASS PERIOD AND TURN THEM IN AT THE END OF THE PERIOD FOR PARTICIPATION POINTS.

DANCE COURSE REQUIREMENTS ACADEMIC HONESTY: THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY IS EXPECTED FROM ALL STUDENTS. ANY STUDENT WHO CHEATS, WHICH INCLUDES ACCEPTING INFORMATION FROM AND/OR GIVING INFORMATION TO OTHERS, UTILIZES ANY FORM OF ILLEGAL ACADEMIC AID DURING A TEST OR ON A SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENT, OR CHANGES ANSWERS OR GRADES IS IN VIOLATION OF ACADEMIC ETHICS. PLAGIARISM IS ALSO CONSIDERED A VIOLATION OF THIS RULE. ANY VIOLATION OF THIS POLICY WILL RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY ACTION. LET US TAKE A SECOND AND TALK ABOUT THE NOHS POLICY.

DANCE COURSE GRADING PROCEDURES: ASSESSMENTS/PERFORMANCES 50% TESTS ASSIGNMENTS/PROJECTS ASSESSMENTS FINAL EXAM 8% DAILY PARTICIPATION 40% DRESSING OUT FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS/APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR IN DANCE CLASS STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVE 2% * PLEASE NOTE - ANY COURSE USED TO DETERMINE STUDENT GROWTH PERCENTILES WILL ADMINISTER A STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVE PRE- AND POST- TEST ASSESSMENT. THE SLO POST-TEST ASSESSMENT WILL COUNT AS 2% OF THE STUDENTS' FINAL GRADE.
