10 Operational Updates Upcoming Projects and Funding Moved $5.6m from BOR–Technology Initiative Funds to OARnet –Implementing the development of Shared Infrastructure platform aimed at consolidating the IT needs of BOR, OARnet, eTech, OhioLink and Ohio Learning Network. Moving eTech Ohio, OLN, OhioLINK and InfoOhio staff –Phase 1 Completed on schedule eTech staff moved by July 1. –Phase 2 Target date of July 22 met to complete the remaining organizations to 35 Chestnut OARnet participated in review of FCC healthcare RFP for SOHCN, resulting in the selection of Horizon as primary service provider 10

11 OARnet also participated in the technical evaluation of the optical solutions in the Horizon proposal, resulting in the selection of a Cisco Optical Solution NTIA and RUS ARRA Round 1 Proposals are due for submission by August 14, 2009 at 5:OOPM ET approximately $4B of $7.2B is targeted for this round. –OARnet is working in support of the Connect Appalachia proposal sponsored by Congressman Zack Space to expand broadband access in 34 counties, and provided a letter of support. –OARnet has offered support for OneCommunity’s proposal to expand access to broadband services is prepared to provide letter of support. –OARnet has offered support to following community based proposals: City of Columbus and Consolidated Edisons in Delaware and Morrow Counties. 11 Operational Updates (continued) Network

12 OARnet has begun planning consolidation of the education network with eTech/ODE. OARnet renews Internet 2 contract with K-12 Community for 2010 OARnet expands aggregation of Internet bandwidth to include K-12 and has outstanding offer to DAS/OIT. OARnet extends Internet 2 offering to Marshall University in support of the West Virginia FCCRHCPP 12 Operational Updates (continued) Network

13 Plans to expand the rural healthcare neonatal program with Nationwide Children’s Hospital in conjunction with the Connect Appalachia plan. 14 VMware Project Update

15 VMware updates VMware contract was expanded to incorporate new product offerings OARnet established a training agreement with Global Knowledge to provide an increased number of VM education courses in Ohio. HE, K-12 and State and Local Government are all participating in the aggregate purchasing program Over $2M in Vmware Software purchased to date. Proof of concept test bed being setup to test desktop virtualization applications –Received donated equipment from IBM worth $40K –Work in conjunction with OU 15

16 VMware Rebate Programs for Institutions 16 American Electric Power (AEP) and Dayton Light and Power (DLP) are offering Energy Rebate programs which allows commercial customers with incentive for reducing energy consumption and demand. For DLP: Customers will be paid at a rate of $.05 per kWh saved + $50 per KW, or $135 - $160 per server removed. For AEP: Customers will be paid at a rate of $.08 per kWh saved + $100 per kW, or $160 - $188 per server removed. Projects must have a minimum payback based on electricity cost savings of at least one year and a maximum of seven years. Previously completed VMW transactions might be permissible under the Self Direct ProgramSelf Direct Program 16

18  Juniper/Cisco – IUC arrangement for all higher education institutions across Ohio 1.Ongoing discussion on two-phase purchasing – short-term ending July 2009, long-term – 18 to 24 months out 2.Continue to negotiate with vendors to enhance the agreement to include K-12, state and local government  Datatel – Aggregate deal on consulting & license commodities for the two-year colleges and the Ohio College Association (OCA)  Banner – Ohio’s Banner user group seeking consortium deal with Banner – beginning stages 18

24 National Discussions Proposed Membership Categories by Carnegie Classification (Draft) Ohio Valley Consortium met with Internet2 staff regarding the new Membership Models and were instrumental in suggesting and getting the Level 2 presented and approved by the Internet2 Membership Committee. This lowered costs for 8 Ohio Internet2 Members. 24
