3 Transition Activities Elementary schools visit Keigwin Incoming parent orientation Mrs. Koff and Mr. Fournier meet with fifth grade teachers to review information sheets Mr. Fournier visits schools to discuss plans for students with IEPs Parents invited to June 1 meeting of Keigwin PTO Summer mailing Student academic data reviewed Beginning of Grade 6 -Fall Open House

4 Team Structure Creates smaller communities of learners- (75 students / 5 teams) Three academic teachers per semester Allows teachers to better get to know students Provides feeling of identity within team. Allows students to develop new friendships Enables teachers to design flexible schedules, if needed Increases collaboration on lessons and instructional units Provides for development of academic and behavioral improvement plans Improves support and communication between school and home

5 A Typical Day 7:50 AM – 2:41 PM Homeroom with Advisory Three Academic Blocks Language Arts Mathematics Science ( 1 semester) World Cultures (1 semester) Double block scheduling for Maximizing instruction Less transitions during the day Providing differentiated instruction and flexible grouping Developing cohesive class groups Two Special Area Blocks Music and Physical Education Alternate days for full year 3 Encore classes Art EducationalTechnology (computers) “ I ROCK” Daily for 1/3 year Intervention instruction Tier 2 math in class Tier 2 Language Arts in additional class Tier 3 Language Arts & Math in additional class X Day- Activity period (Wednesdays) Full ensemble rehearsals: Band, chorus, strings
