9. What is in the VBE? A vocabulary contains concepts or terms It can have structure – simple lists, hierarchical taxonomies, thesauri and ontologies. The vocabularies are used to: – define preferred words and definitions – provide controlled lists for use in metadata – share structures for navigation – carry additional information to support user interfaces or searching – provide mappings between terms
