15 15 Hong Kong Perspectives 《香港新視點》 Presenter ︰ Jimmy Ching 程治平 It has been 25 years since the Basic Law of Hong Kong SAR was adopted by the 7th National People's Congress in 1990. On July 1, 1997, it went into effect as the SAR was established and handed back to China. The city has come a long way since its days of being a British colonial outpost. Now it is a metropolitan under Chinese rule. Obviously, the task of implementing the “One Country, Two Systems” political model in Hong Kong is momentous. On the 18 th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover, Phoenix Hong Kong Channel is proud to present the new program Hong Kong Perspectives. Through interviews with major SAR government officials such as Chief Secretary Carrie Lam, Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam, LegCo president Jasper Tsang, as well as experts from think tanks, the program explains the essence of the Basic Law and explores how it has been implemented citing examples from the past. Using a multi-prong approach, the program aims to examine the Basic Law in all its aspects concerning the SAR’s policies on finance, education, population, travel, civil service, while anticipating its road ahead.
