2. Williams Family Parents: father Alphonso Taft, and mother Louise Taft Brothers: Charles Taft, Peter Taft, Horace Taft and Henry Taft Sister: Frances Louise

3. Family Continued Williams father had an astounding political career. He held a number of positions including a delegate to the Republican National Convention, a judge to the Superior Court of Cincinnati, and after resigning from the Superior court he continued to practice law with 2 of his sons. He was also the 1st president of the Cincinnati Bar Association

4. Williams Childhood William was born into a long Prominent family in September 15, 1857 William Taft is notoriously remembered for his weight. His obesity started at a very young age. Some experts say Will's weight problem was from the stress he was under trying to live up to his father's expectations. Even though William was a husky child he enjoyed many sports his favorite being baseball.

5. Education William attended Woodward High School which is now known as School of Performing Arts He also attended Yale University graduating 2nd in his class. After graduating from Yale, William went to the University of Cincinnati Law School. He was Admitted to the bar in 1880

6. Williams Career After Graduating from UC Taft practiced law for 7 years. In 1886 Taft Married Helen Harron, she supported him and provided the drive he lacked. After practicing law for several years Taft became a Judge in 1887. U.S. Solicitor General in 1890. Judge of the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court in 1892. From 1896-1900 William taught law. From 1900-1904 William was Governor-General of the Philippines.

7. Career Continued In the Philippines William worked hard to to implement civilian government in the recently acquired islands. Taft did not get along with American military commander General Arthur MacArthur because he treated the Filipinos poorly. Taft was eventually successful in having MacArthur removed from his command.

8. Taft enters the Presidency As Taft entered the White House he was eager to continue Roosevelt's policies. Taft thought the president's job was to enforce the law/ the constitution. One of the first things Taft did was lower tariffs The Mann-Elkins Act of 1910 was also passed in Taft's administration. This act empowered the Interstate Commerce Commission to suspend railroad rate hikes and to set rates.

9. Taft's Presidency Continued William was most commonly known for his trust busting, which he had in common with Roosevelt. In actuality Taft was responsible for more Trust- Busting than Roosevelt who was known as “The Great Trust-Buster.” The most famous anti-trust cases under the Taft administration were Standard Oil Company of New Jersey and the American Tobacco Company. But as soon as Taft went after U.S. Steal Roosevelt began to speak negatively on Taft's behalf. Also as President Taft supported trade with south and Central American, the Caribbean, and the Far East

10. After Presidency After Taft's Presidency, William taught at Yale University Law School. He taught until president Warren G. Harding appointed him chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. As Chief of justice Taft wrote an astounding 253 opinions or about 1/6 of the decisions handed down during his term. Taft served in the Supreme Court until his death in 1930.

11. Taft's Death On March 8, 1930, Taft died from complications of heart disease, high blood pressure, and inflammation of the bladder. He was the 1 st president to have his funeral broadcasted over radio. Taft was buried Arlington cemetery and him and John F. Kennedy are the only Presidents buried at Arlington.

12. Legacy Taft was most commonly known for being a fat huge guy who is always jolly. He was definitely a large factor in Trust-Busting although his once friend Roosevelt who did not bust as many Trust is known as the “The Great Trust-Buster” Although Will was not passionate about bring President, he was passionate about being a judge, and he did a very good ob at it.
