2   Choose TWO of the following three questions to demonstrate your understanding of the stories we have studied. (If you do all three questions, only the first two will be assessed.)  You may not bring any notes into class for this assessment.  You must discuss two different stories in your responses. i.e. you may not use just one story to answer both questions. Short Story Assessment

3  a) Draw and label the six parts of a PLOT LINE b) On your page, below the line, list the six parts of the plot line and provide specific details from ONE of the short stories we studied for EACH part of the plot line. Remember to identify the story you have chosen. 1. Plot line

4  Write a character study of ONE of the protagonists -- Miss Ralston, Pete or Mrs. Higgins -- giving examples that show how the author uses both direct and indirect characterization. You may not write about Alfred, Sucker or Alma. 2. Character Study

5  Using the same ‘voice’ as the author, write the next 3 paragraphs of one of the short stories. Your responses will be assessed holistically for  Demonstrated understanding of literary terms  Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the stories we studied in class  Demonstrated writing skills – organization, ideas, style, and conventions. 3.
