 Appeal to each form of learning  Present information in various ways:  Linguistic… using words  Nonlinguistic… using images and visual sensations  Provide opportunity for students to “learn by doing”

 Word Processing Applications  Incorporate visual elements into text (graphic- enhanced notes) ▪ Clip art ▪ Photos  Beneficial to: ▪ Emergent readers ▪ ELL’s

 Spreadsheet Software  Incorporate visual elements into data ▪ Graphs ▪ Charts  Helps to make sense of otherwise confusing data  Organizing/Brainstorming Software  “Inspiration”, “Kidspiration”, “bubble.us”, etc.

 Multimedia Software  Movies/Video ▪ iMovie, Movie Maker  Presentations ▪ Inspiration, PowerPoint, HyperStudio

Word Processing MS Word has tools to help teachers model good summarizing and note taking Ex. Track Changes and Autosummarize features

Notetaking Various applications such as Inspiration can be used to help students take notes in a variety of formats (outlining, webbing, pictographs). Teachers can supply note “skeletons” which can give students a format to build upon.

Organizing/Brainstorming Software Tools such as Inspiration and Bubble.Us provide many templates which can be used as is or modified. Ex. Problem/ Solution template can be used with lesson on pollution

Mutimedia - can be used to present summaries and notes - teacher should ensure that students stay focused on substance rather than presentation itself

Collaborative Note taking New tools such as Wikis and Blogs can provide students with seamless ways for students to communicate and participate in reciprocal teaching. Components- Summarizing, questioning, clarifying, predicting
