3  Biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever  nearly €80 billion of funding available  over 7 years (2014 to 2020)  in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. 3

4  A means to drive economic growth and create jobs  Τhe political backing of Europe’s leaders and the Members of the European Parliament.  They agreed that research is an investment in our future and so put it at the heart of the EU’s blueprint for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth and jobs. 4

5  By coupling research and innovation, Horizon 2020 is helping to achieve this with its emphasis on  excellent science  industrial leadership  tackling societal challenges  The goal is to ensure Europe produces world-class science, removes barriers to innovation and makes it easier for the public and private sectors to work together in delivering innovation. 5

6 Horizon 2020 will support  development of multinational, transdisciplinary demonstration projects that explore and showcase the potential of cultural heritage for urban and rural regeneration in Europe.  large array of stakeholders, including local and regional authorities, businesses, civil society as well as cultural heritage professionals and researchers, and serve as large- scale 'heritage labs' that can pave the way for new markets and jobs.  In addition, the Commission will explore prizes in cultural heritage to reward innovative ideas and solutions for new use and reuse of cultural heritage. 6

7 Who can apply for funding from Horizon 2020  Horizon 2020 funding is based on competitive calls that are open to everyone, also to organisations or individuals outside the EU.  Participants from countries associated to the EU research framework programme have the same rights as EU participants;  Individual researchers, research organisations, companies or other organisations to decide whether to get involved. 7

11 Europe in a changing world: Inclusive, innovative and reflective societies  there will be a range of topics covering areas like new ideas, strategies and governance structures for overcoming the crisis in Europe, innovation in the public sector enabled by ICT, business model innovation, social innovation, European cultural heritage, history, culture and identity;  Reflective societies : transmission of European cultural heritage, uses of the past, 3D modelling for accessing EU cultural assets. 11

12 Main Objectives for Cultural Heritage  ECONOMY  Promoting innovative finance, investment, governance, management and business models to increase the effectiveness of cultural heritage as an economic production factor  SOCIETY  Promoting the innovative use of cultural heritage to encourage integration, inclusiveness, cohesion and participation  ENVIRONMENT  Promoting innovative and sustainable use of cultural heritage to enable it to realise its full potential contributing to sustainable development of European cultural landscapes and environments. 12

13 EU to increase funding for cultural heritage research and innovation  In 2016-17, over €100 million for research and innovation in the field of cultural heritage will be available under Horizon 2020, the EU's research funding programme.  This increase in funding recognises cultural heritage as an investment opportunity where research and innovation can make a difference. 13
