Today, I found out that in two weeks my mom and I are going to be moving near my grandparents, who live three hours away in Cincinnati, Ohio. I was excited to hear the news because I love spending time with Granny and Pappy, but then mom told me some news that made me sad.
3
She said “ The new house we are moving into is a lot smaller than our house now and we do not have much space in the moving truck, I am sorry but you have to leave behind many of your toys. There is only room for ten of your favorite toys.”
4
I was sad, but I understood why I couldn’t take them all. I did have way too many toys. So I started to think about what I could do with all the toys I couldn’t take.
5
I thought and thought…. Until all of the sudden I had it! I knew what I could do! I could give away some to my friends and I could sell some in mom’s yard sale!
6
Mom gave me four big boxes to separate and put my toys into. First I will put my stuffed animals in one box. Next my Baby Dolls will go in the second box. Then my balls and other outside toys will go in a third box. Lastly I will put my other toys in the fourth box. 12 3 4

I counted eight stuffed animals total that I want to give away. So I picked four friends that I know would love to have some new stuffed animals! Now I have to figure out how many they each get. Can you help? 1 1

I want to be fair to each friend. I want to give each friend the same amount of stuffed animals. How much does each friend get? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
10
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 First I see if I have enough to give each of my four friends one stuffed animal. Since there were enough to give them each one stuffed animal and some left over let’s find out if there is enough to give them each another stuffed animal.
11
After dividing my stuffed animals equally among four of my friends, how many did each friend get? 2 Friends Animals each Each friend got two stuffed animals. We can write this problem in number form like this.
12
3 2 4 After I gave away my stuffed animals I counted my outdoor toys and put them into the second box. Can you help me count how many I have all together? 1 2 34 567

2 X I counted seven outdoor toys that I want to give away. I think each friend should get two of my outdoor toys, so now I have to figure out how many friends I can equally share my outdoor toys with. Can you help?
14
I have seven outdoor toys and I want to give each friend two toys. How many friends can I give toys to? 1 3 I can equally give three friends each two outdoor toys. I still have a pair of skates left. Since I only have one outdoor toy left that means I can’t give another friend two outdoor toys. I will sell the left over skates in the yard sale! 2 each toys friendsR 1 toy
15
4 Next I want to give away my baby dolls. 3
16
I have 3 friends. I gave each friend three baby dolls. Can you help me find how many baby dolls I started with? 123456 7 89 First I count how many my first friend has. Then I add on how many my second friend has. Last I add on how many my third friend has. The total amount I add up is how many dolls I started with.
17
12 3 4 5678 9 I counted nine dolls all together. We can write the problem in number form like this. 3 dolls + 3 dolls + 3 dolls = 9 dolls all together OR 3 dolls x 3 friends = 9 dolls all together
18
4 I have one box left of toys to give away. I already gave each of my friends toys. I will sell the last box of toys in the yard sale.
19
Ask 4 Prices On the day of our yard sale a lot of people came! Many people bought our stuff, especially my toys.
20
One by one people bought my toys. 4 By the end of the yard sale I sold all of my toys.
21
$5.00 $4.50 $ 1.00 $0.75 $2.00 $3.00 $2.00 $1.50 $1.00 $5.00 This is how much each toy sold for. $5.00 Can you help me count how much money I made from the yard sale?
22
Add up each column of purple numbers. $1.00 $0.75 $2.00 $3.00 $2.00 $1.50 $1.00 _______ $ $1.00 $0.75 $2.00 $3.00 $2.00 $1.50 $1.00 $2.00 $1.00 $0.75 $2.00 $3.00 $1.50 $1.00. $0.75 $2.00 $3.00 $1.50 $1.00 $2.00 + 52 +1 1 11$11.25 First we are going to add the smaller numbers.
23
$5.00 $4.50 $5.00 _______ 05 19$ $5.00 $4.50 $5.00 $4.50 $5.00. + $4.50 $5.00 _______ $ $5.00 + $4.50 $5.00 $ 11.25 $ 19.50 Next add up the larger numbers.
24
$ 11. 25 $ 19. 50 + ____________ 5. 70 +1 1 3$ Lastly, add together the two totals.
25
I made $ 30. 75 from the yard sale. $30.75 =
26
Once we move I can use that money to buy some new toys! Maybe having to get rid of my old toys was not so sad after all! Plus my birthday is in one month! I am sure I will get new toys then.
