3. Wings of Hope Faith based support group for those diagnosed with breast cancer. Recently formed by nursing leadership at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital (Borgess News, 2014). Meets monthly in person, support available at all times through Facebook page.

4. Volunteer Role Lead the group in a discussion on sharing. Prepare printed materials on the benefits of sharing. Prepare short opening speech on sharing. Post on groups’ Facebook page. Encourage members to share their stories.

5. Reflection Breast cancer has strongly affected my personal life. Honored to use my acquired knowledge for this community service. Supporting a communities’ members, makes for a stronger community. Support groups come in different forms. Faith adds extra support.

6. Synthesis Accomplished several of the BSN outcomes. Applied Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring into my practice. “Curing cannot occur without Caring” (Vance, 2013). Prepared evidence-based information for the group. Professionalism achieved through practice of the Nursing Standards of Professional Performance.

7. Recommendations Watson’s belief in unity and connections (Vance, 2013). Support groups = strong community members = stronger communities. Strong communities is a goal of service learning. Excellent opportunity for me to support a community using skills acquired in the classroom.
