Caleb Ofori

Centrioles are barreled-shaped structures that exist in eukaryotic cells. They exist in all eukaryotic cells besides plant cells and fungi cells. Centrioles exist in the centrosomes of these cells. There are mother and daughter centrioles in each cell and they lie perpendicular to each other.

Centrioles are made up of nine sets of microtubule triplets. These microtubule triplets are arranged in a cylindrical manner, which provides the barrel-like structure.

Centrioles are the nucleation points for spindle formation during mitosis and meiosis Centrioles are involved in the organization of the mitotic spindle. These are centrioles > Centrioles are also apart of cilia and/or flagella formation

Centrioles are responsible for the organization of the mitotic spindle and the completion of cell division. Centrioles are also responsible for organizing microtubules within the cytoplasm. The position of the centriole determines the position of the nucleus, which plays a very important part in the spatial arrangement of the cell

Deregulation of centriole numbers has been linked to genome instability and tumor formation. Mutations of centrosomal proteins have been linked to microcephaly and dwarfism. Structural and functional abnormalities contribute to a variety of complex diseases that stem dysfunction cilia.
