1 Introduction to polygons
Geometry 5th Grade Mr. Freedman Next Slide

2 The Different Types Of polygons
Click on a Polygon to get started or click the name below Triangle Square Hexagon Octagon Rhombus Rectangle Pentagon Parallelogram

3 Quick Facts About Triangles
A Triangle has 3 sides A right triangle has 90 degree angle in it An acute triangle all of its sides are no greater than 90 degrees Obtuse triangles have one angle that is greater than 90 degrees A scalene triangle none of its sides are equal In an Isosceles Triangle at least 2 of the sides are equal in length Return to Main Menu

4 Quick facts about the Square
A square has 4 equal sides All of the angles of the square are equal Since all of the angles and sides are equal it can be referred to as a quadrilateral The area of the square is length * width The perimeter of the square is 4* the side A square is also a rectangle Return To Main Menu

5 Quick Facts About the Hexagon
the Hexagon is a 6 sided polygon When all angles are equal and all sides are equal it is regular, otherwise it is irregular Soap bubbles tend to from hexagons The shape of the bee hives are also Hexagons The Perimeter of the Hexagon is the sum of all its sides Each of the six angles measures a total of 120 degrees Return to Main Menu

6 Quick facts about the Octagon
An Octagon has 8 sides Its interior angles measure 135 degrees The Stop signs are in the shape of an Octagon Octagons symbolize regeneration A regular Octagon has exterior angles that measure 45 degrees The total of all of the interior angles totals 1080 Return to Main Menu

7 Quick Facts about the Rhombus
A Rhombus is a flat shape Has 4 equal straight sides Opposite sides are parallel Opposite angles are equal The infield for baseball is in the shape of a rhombus All Rhombuses have 2 diagonals Return to Main Menu

8 Quick facts about Rectangles
Opposite Sides are parallel All angles are right angles Opposite sides have the same length Adjacent sides are perpendicular Each rectangle contains 2 diagonals Each of the diagonals intersect in halves Return to Main Menu

9 Quick facts about the Pentagon
Has 5 sides Exterior angles are 72 degrees Interior angles measure up to 108 degrees The sum of all of the inside angles totals 540 degrees There are no right angles A star has the form of a pentagon Return to Main Menu

10 Quick facts about the Parallelogram
Opposite sides are equal Opposite angles are equal A Rectangle is a Parallelogram A Rhombus is also a Parallelogram A square is a Parallelogram The altitude (or height) of a parallelogram is the perpendicular distance from the base to the opposite side Return to Main Menu

11 A) Pentagon B)Rhombus C)Hexagon D)Octagon
Quiz Question Which polygon has a total of 5 sides? A) Pentagon B)Rhombus C)Hexagon D)Octagon

12 Answer Choice A: This is correct Great Job A Pentagon has 5 sides
Congratulations you have gotten the question correct you can now proceed to the end Click the arrow below to move to the end

13 Sorry this answer is incorrect keep trying the Hexagon has six sides
Please try again click the arrow to try again

14 Sorry that answer is incorrect the Rhombus has four sides
Please keep trying click the arrow to try again

15 Sorry that answer that is incorrect the Octagon has eight sides
Please try again click the arrow to try again

16 Congratulations you have completed the lesson on all of the different Polygons and now should have a better understanding of the shapes Return to title slide
