6 Homonyms Homonyms, or homophones, are words that are spelled differently, have different meanings, but are pronounced alike. Usually, they come in pairs. Sometimes they come in triplets. Examples: The most common errors to be aware of include: 1) principal, principal; 2) there, their, they’re; 3) through, threw; 4) to, too, two; 5) whether, weather; 6) which, witch; 7) its, it’s.

8 Synonyms! A synonym is a word that has the same meaning as another word. For example, happy = sunny, smiley, or joyful. What would be the synonym for woman? Female, lady

9 Fun with synonyms Sally has a good friend named Mr. Pickles. Mr. Pickles is very nice to Sally. What words could we replace for the underlined words? Sally has a great, wonderful, nice friend named Mr. Pickles. Mr. Pickles is very friendly, respectful to Sally.

Example: grass//green & sky//????

14 The ‘clue’ is to discover why and how the first pair go together.
