3 Our Vowels A O E U I

4 A, E, I, O, and U are called VOWELS and all other letters are called CONSONANTS. Vowels make two different sounds. A long vowel sound and a short vowel sound. Today we will talk about short vowel sounds.

5 Today we will talk about the letter O
O makes the “o” sound that we make when we shape our mouth like an octopus!

6 You will find the letter O in a lot of words.
When you see a vowel, like the letter O in between 2 consonants, it makes the short vowel sound. In this case, the “o” sound.

7 Look for a pattern When you are reading, look for the consonant, vowel, consonant pattern to help you know what sound the vowel will make. For example- p o t c v c
