7 Electronic Field Study Administrative Training GIS Data Requirements
Working with GIS Data in EFS GIS data must be in either: ESRI Shapefile format (.shp) ESRI SDE Feature Class EFS does not work with directly with personal or file geodatabases These features must be exported to shapefile or SDE for use in EFS GIS data can be displayed on top of imagery and searched by users SDE Connection You can bring in GIS data through an SDE connection SDE connection is made via ‘Annotate’  ‘SDE Connection’ in EFS Make sure you connect with generic user credentials

8 Installing EFS 2.7 Minimum Hardware Specifications
Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Installation & Upgrade of the Application Installing EFS 2.7 Minimum Hardware Specifications Windows 2000, XP, Vista or 7 Pentium III 450MHz (Windows 2000) Pentium IV 1GHz (XP, Vista or 7) 512MB of RAM (Windows 2000 or XP) 1GB of RAM (Vista or 7) Display Resolution 1024x768 / 24 bit color EFS Application – 50MB of available space 100Mb/s or faster network connection to LIB

9 Installation Procedure
Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Installation & Upgrade of the Application Installation Procedure Software Folder  EFS 2.7 R1.16 Launch ‘Setup.exe’ to begin installation License should reside at the root of the installation folder Follow the installation wizard Installation Suggestions: Choose ‘Typical’ when asked to define your user level Say ‘NO’ when asked to install the automatic updater

10 Electronic Field Study Administrative Training First Launch Tasks
Agree to License Agreement Select default toolbar layout Pictometry recommends ‘Image View Measure Markup’ as a starting configuration Connect EFS to Image Library Needs to be done at every workstation Part of the installation process of EFS UNC Naming vs. Drive Mapping We recommend using UNC (Universal Naming Convention) naming Avoids drive letter dependencies \\Server\Share Name vs. G:\

11 Modify Image Tool Properties
Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Connecting EFS to a Warehouse Modify Image Tool Properties Click on Image Tool Properties in the tool bar or go to “Navigate”  “Image Tool Properties” Select the ‘Add’ Button Select ‘Browse for Local File’

12 Modify Image Tool Properties
Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Connecting EFS to a Warehouse Modify Image Tool Properties Browse to Image Warehouse location Connect to ‘top level’ Pictometry Image Warehouse (.PIW) file at the root of your –WHS folder inside your image library (-LIB) folder.

13 New Imagery with an Existing Installation?
Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Installation & Upgrade of the Application New Imagery with an Existing Installation? You do not need to reinstall EFS For these machines: New License needs to be loaded Start EFS with no workspace File  Load License Add new Warehouse to Image Tool Properties Upgrade to Latest Version Pictometry recommends that you check for newer versions of EFS with prior installations You may check for updates via: Pictometry Updater Pictometry’s ‘Tech. Updates’ alerts –

14 EFS - Points of Configuration
Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Installation & Upgrade of the Application EFS - Points of Configuration Post install of EFS requires additional configuration Image Tool Properties (warehouses) Address Search Setup SDE Credentials Any other non-default settings desired

15 Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Creating Search Profiles
Searching GIS Data in EFS GIS data can be searched via ‘Search Profiles’ Search Profiles are created under the ‘Navigate’ dropdown in EFS Two options - Address Search Setup: Used to configure searches for addressing data GIS Search Setup: Used to configure searches for any other data Search Profiles can be deployed to users via a saved Pictometry Address Lookup file (.PAX) or with Configuration Editor

16 Post Installation Requires Add’l Configuration
Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Points of Configuration in EFS Post Installation Requires Add’l Configuration Image Tool Properties (Warehouses) Address Search Setup SDE Credentials Any other non-default settings desired Toolbar layout Independent tool properties and units of measurement Configuration Editor These settings can be captured into a Pictometry Configuration File (.pcf) and deployed to other workstations Resulting workstations will be installed fully configured as desired

17 Steps to Create a Configuration File
Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Administrative Applications Configuration Editor Administrative tool only Captures desired configuration settings into a file This ‘Pictometry Configuration File’ (.PCF) can be used during installation of EFS onto additional machines Additional installations will be fully configured as desired Steps to Create a Configuration File Install and configure EFS fully as desired Install and launch Pictometry Configuration Editor Create a .PCF file from available settings Copy .PCF file into the EFS installation directory (with setup.exe) Install EFS onto additional workstations

18 ‘Check Future Update File’ option
Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Managing EFS Deployments ‘Check Future Update File’ option Configuration Editor can create a .PCF file which is automatically checked for future updates to a specified configuration file This can be used to remotely administer and manage EFS installations You can make changes to a point of configuration and have those changes automatically deployed to your users Steps to Create a PCF to Check for Updates Under the ‘EFS Advanced’ tab in EFS, point to desired .PCF to check for updates under the ‘Check Future Update File’ option Save the .PCF as desired EFS will now reference the above .PCF every time it launches If EFS detects a revision, it will automatically apply changes ‘Force’ option will force the .PCF to load upon every invocation of EFS whether or not the .PCF has been modified This allows you to completely ‘lock’ a workstation down

19 Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Sector Planner
An administrative tool that automates the creation of subwarehouses Subwarehouse = a standalone subset of your delivery Locate or create a shape file of the boundary of desired area Locate available space for the new subwarehouse Using Sector Planner, create the subwarehouse

20 Electronic Field Study Administrative Training ESRI Integration
Pictometry for ArcGIS Desktop – ActiveX Accesses Pictometry imagery for display in an image window inside ArcMap Can access conventional library, PAR library, and imagery served up via NIW Latest release: Version for ArcMap 10 Legacy releases also available: Version for ArcMap 9.2; Version for ArcMap 9.3

21 Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Training Objectives
Brief Product Suite Overview Discussion: Image Data and GIS Data Installation / Upgrade of Applications Administrative Applications ESRI Integration Information

22 Electronic Field Study Administrative Training Wrap Up & Getting Help
Go To: Sign up for Technical Updates Attend Free Webinar Trainings Download documentation and videos EFS 2.7 User Guide User guide is installed with EFS Can be accessed via ‘Help’  ‘Users Guide’ in EFS Include screen captures, descriptions, versions Call: Customer Support is available 8:30 - 5:30 Eastern time
