Snowmass, August 16, 2005 H.Weerts SiD Design Goals and Plans for Snowmass SiD @ Snowmass H.Weerts Argonne Nat. Lab./ Michigan State Univ.

Snowmass, August 16, 2005 H.Weerts SiD Intro & some history I Original concept for SiD from M.Breidenbach and J.Brau (2003) Official start of ILC detector concepts at ALCPG04, Victoria First SiD kick-off meeting with interested parties Critical SiD Questions document (still valid) Kick off meetings at ECFA & ACFA meetings Fall ‘04 Put SiD organization in place in Fall & Winter; form some subgroups and start work in those: CAL/PFA, tracker layout & design with work starting quickly. Followed by: solenoid feasibility, vertex, benchmarking Critical area for all development & progress in SiD with a lot of development and work done is simulation. Cont’d

Snowmass, August 16, 2005 H.Weerts SiD Intro II Critical area for all development & progress in SiD with a lot of development and work done is simulation. SiD now has a simulation of the baseline detector First version: SIDMAY05 and now the latest SIDAUG05 Description is at: http://confluence.slac.stanford.edu/display/ilc/sidmay05?s howAttachments=true#attachments R&D needs of SiD is another crucial area MDI subgroup has started with first answers MDI questions Muon group was formed just before this workshop

Snowmass, August 16, 2005 H.Weerts SiD Organization EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE H.Aihara, J.Brau, M.Breidenbach, J.Jaros, J.Karyotakis, H.Weerts & A.White SOLENOID FLUX RET R.Smith -- VERY FORWARD -- SIMULATION N.Graf -- MDI P.Burrows T.Tauchi -- VERTEXING Su Dong -- CALORIMETERS R.Frey J.Repond -- MUON H.Band H.E.Fisk -- BENCHMARKING T.Barklow -- COST M.Breidenbach -- R& D COORDINATOR A. 5 Snowmass, August 16, 2005 H.Weerts SiD at Snowmass 2005 Over the last year we have had many phone meetings which were all more or less driven by subgroups. Had one afternoon meeting at LCWS05 (see SiD Web page) Snowmass 2005 is first occasion for people interested to participate in Sid to actually spend some time together and work on SiD. This is an important step for SiD and we think this may be the first in a series of SiD design study (…) meetings

Snowmass, August 16, 2005 H.Weerts Plans for Snowmass Plans vary for different subgroups and we will hear in next talks about this General theme: simulation and study of the baseline detector and possibly variations of that baseline, but this is rather group dependent Agenda for SiD plenary and subgroup meetings is on the workshop Web site and will be updated daily.

Snowmass, August 16, 2005 H.Weerts SiD at Snowmass; 2 weeks Tuesday, Aug 16: SID plenary & working groups Thursday, Aug 25: SID plenary & group summaries prepare summary talk W’day, Aug 24: SID working group meetings Thursday, Aug 18 – Tuesday, Aug 23: no official SiD meetings W’day, Aug 17: SID working group meetings There are many other interesting meetings/activities during this time, BUT this is the only real “workshop” time to work on SiD. Plan to take advantage of it. Friday, Aug 16 & Saturday Aug 27: Workshop Summaries

Snowmass, August 16, 2005 H.Weerts General info on SiD Website: With most links: working groups, agendas, meetings, baseline detector drawings, etc. Baseline description as in simulation: http://confluence.slac.stanford.edu/display/ilc/sidmay05?sho wAttachments=true#attachments http://www-sid.slac.stanford.edu/ Not the most modern, latest technology & sexiest WEB site, but it has the information

Snowmass, August 16, 2005 H.Weerts After Snowmass Part of the Snowmass discussions, but here is some information for those discussions: Hopefully Snowmass is the start of many activities to be continued Subgroups should plan on producing a write-up of work done at Snowmass These write-ups or a more egneral Sid Snowmass summary may be the first draft for the Sid outline to be ready for LCWS06 in March 2006 With that ….. wish us a successful workshop
