Galatians: Starting Over {Yet Again} The Hypocrite

"Too many hypocrites!"

All of us

All of us - None of us can live up to all We proclaim and aspire to

All of us - Believers proclaim allegiance To a Perfect Word…

All of us We are all hypocrites

All of us We are all hypocrites Intentional or Unintentional… Makes all the difference

Intentional… I hide who I am and Pretend I'm something else When caught, I deny or Rationalize, justify, blameshift

Christ is disgraced The Holy Spirit is grieved God's Name has been taken In vain

Unintentional… I never proclaim to be perfect I also don't justify or rationalize When I fall, I humbly confess

And it shows my need for Jesus Glorifies my God And tells people that Jesus is at Work forgiving and growing me

Jesus was grieved by Intentional Hypocrisy Unintentional hypocrisy Points to Jesus as the Perfect One and Forgiver

When I walk closely with God What grieves my heart is a Reflection of what grieves his

What grieves God Will grieve me What causes God joy Will cause me joy My reactions become a mirror Of my King

There is a Call on your life Right where you are Right now Ministers of reconciliation

The greatest evidence Of the Gospel Is your changed life

With the Call comes Well-intentioned Dragons And Hypocrites To neuter the message No joy…no faith…no evidence

When I walk closely with God What grieves my heart is a Reflection of what grieves his

But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned

What would cause A no-account, late arrival To stand toe-to-toe With the guy who kicked-off The church of Jesus Christ?

He was grieved, angered, upset Because Peter was mocking The Gospel of Jesus By his actions

When I walk closely with God What grieves my heart is a Reflection of what grieves his

There's a difference between Being a Christian who Knows stuff And one who walks Closely with Jesus

"I'm upset. I'll take a stand, then pray for God to support me" "God's Spirit is grieved within me. I'll stand where God stands"

When I walk closely with God What grieves my heart is a Reflection of what grieves his

For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles

…but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party

Rank Hypocrisy Living for opinions of men Showing favoritism Fear of man…

The suit…

And Jesus wants more for us Than having to pretend In order to gain approval From sinners just like us

Following Jesus never affects Just me, right? - Fruit of the Spirit - God directing me, wisdom - Obeying as he leads

That's the problem with sin- it NEVER affects just me

Even if it does, it doesn't

Even if it does, it doesn't - Fruit of the Flesh - Decision-making and wisdom - Missing God-led opportunities

How we walk Always affects the people We are in relationship with

Check it: And the rest of the Jews (Jewish Christians) acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy

Intentional Hypocrisy To earn approval of men - Public - Disgraceful

Black in white America…

Black in white America… Finally started to trust

Black in white America… Finally started to trust Acting like they don't know you

Paul is grieved And emboldened Even though it's Peter

But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel I said to Cephas before them all…

…not in step with The truth of the gospel Level ground= equal Jesus alone= righteousness How we live= integrity Hypocrisy= damages the gospel

“If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

Outed… Why didn't he take him aside? - Nature of the sin - How far it spread

Paul is grieved. Because…

When we walk closely with God What grieves our heart is a Reflection of what grieves his

Paul takes it to Peter Not to a bunch of others But to the source Great example of something that I absolutely…

Terms: Jews by birth- with the Law Gentile Sinners- without Law

We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law…

…but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law

…because by works of the law no one will be justified

But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not!

We aren't Gentile sinners (People who don't follow Law) But now we aren't under Law So did Jesus make us "sinners"?

For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor If I go back to Law, Peter I prove my own hypocrisy & sin

For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God Fulfilled in Christ

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me I died to the Law Because I died to self

Which also means… I don't need The approval of man Nor do I have to fear man Or man's organizations

And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me But I do fear God…and love him

I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose - Gal. 2:12-21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose - Gal. 2:12-21

God doesn't demand Your perfection He becomes your perfection And dies on a cross for your sin To set you free from hypocrisy

Identity in Christ Only Jesus is Perfect I am in Christ He is my Perfection and my Forgiveness when I stumble

I don't have to Play the hypocrite To please people No matter who they are

Hypocrisy grieves the Heart Of God And it should grieve ours

"So let's all judge The hypocrites!"

My own hypocrisy should Grieve my heart most

Let's Pray…
