Background on Post-Secondary Education Funding In Fiscal Year 2011-2012, one “education” bill (Public Act 62 of 2011) was approved that provided funding for K-12, community colleges, higher education, and funding for financial aid programs for students attending either public or private colleges/universities in Michigan. The legislation was formally approved by the Michigan Legislature on May 26, 2011 and signed by the Governor on June 22, 2011. The first time in approximately thirty- five years that the appropriation bill was passed before the start of the State’s fiscal year – which begins October 1 st.
