The doctrine of redemption “The proclamation of the gospel—again addressed in words to minds—is the chief means which God has appointed to bring salvation to sinners” (p. 21) 1 Corinthians 1:21

The doctrine of judgment “For if one thing is clear about biblical teaching on the judgment of God, it is that he will judge us by our knowledge, by our response (or lack of response) to his revelation” (p. 24)

7 Summary: The basic rationality of humans
“God has constituted us thinking beings; he has treated us as such by communicating with us in words; he has renewed us in Christ and given us the mind of Christ; and he will hold us responsible for the knowledge we have” (p. 26)

6 spheres of Christian living that require the mind for proper use: 1. True worship 1 Corinthians 14:13-15 “Paul could not contemplate any prayer or worship in which the mind was barren or inactive. He insisted that in all true worship the mind must be fully and fruitfully engaged” (p. 33)

Faith is a reasoning trust “Faith is a reasoning trust, a trust which reckons thoughtfully and confidently upon the trustworthiness of God” (p. 36) “Faith and thought belong together, and believing is impossible without thinking” (p. 37)

4. Guidance and God’s will How do we determine the will of God? General Will “become conformed to the image of his Son” (p. 43) Revealed in scripture Particular Will What should I do? Whom should I marry? How should I spend my money? “is not to be sought in Scripture, for Scripture does not contradict itself, and it is of the essence of God’s particular will that it may be different for different members of his family” (p. 44) How to find it? Use “the mind and the common sense which God has given you” (p. 45) “”But ultimately you must make up your mind, trusting that God will guide you through your own mental processes” (p. 45)
