2 Housing Built homes using mudbrick Mudbrick was easy to make and use

3 Living off the Land Egypt is divided into two types of land
Known as wet land and dry land or black land and red land The Nile River Red Land Black Land

4 Black Land Fertile land on the banks of the Nile
Ancient Egyptians used this land for growing crops to eat and sell The only land in Egypt that can be used to farm because of the soil that is produced from the Nile flooding every year Black Land came from the idea that black silt is the type of soil there

5 Red Land Desert that protects Egypt on two sides
Stopped neighboring countries from invading Egyptian land This is the land that most people associate with Egypt This land provided ancient Egyptians with metals and precious stones Built pyramids on this type of land for protection purposes

6 Working Life Most workers had a trained skill
They were well respected in the community Lifestyle and social standing depended on the quality of their work

7 Gods and Goddesses Ancient Egyptians believed in many different Gods and Goddesses Each God or Goddess played a vital role in keeping peace and harmony throughout the land It was important to recognize and worship these Gods so that life would go smoothly and safely

8 Death Early Egyptians buried their dead in small pits in the desert
Egyptians soon developed the idea of burying their dead in coffins Coffins protected the bodies from wild animals that were in the desert Bodies decayed when they were buried in coffins

9 Mummification Egyptians wanted to preserve the look of the bodies
Developed the system of mummification to ensure the bodies ability to be preserved after death The bodies were drained of any fluids and then wrapped in strips of linen More information about mummification

10 Pyramids Built as tombs for pharos and their queens
About 110 known pyramids in Egypt The three largest and best preserved are located at Giza Still a mystery to modern technology Had many paths on the inside to trap possible tomb raiders Took over 100 years to complete many of the larger pyramids Egyptian pyramid guide

11 Writing Egyptians thought it was important to record information
Wanted to preserve the stories of religion and government Developed approximately four different styles of writing to help record the important information Known as scripts

12 Hieroglyphics Most well known style of writing developed by the ancient Egyptians Over 2,000 characters Could represent a sound of an object or the object itself Hieroglyphic directory
