5 Step one: Text A Our College (1)  1. Reading the article in teams. The students are asked to read the text together in teams. They may discuss the problems if any at this time.  2. Check the team-reading. Ask each team to read one part of the article together. Pay attention to their pronunciation and intonation.  3. Explanation to the article.  4. Reading aloud.

I wonder if you could tell me something about the college. Can you tell me something about the college? Could you tell me something about the college? 9 2. Explanation to the article. (1) Explain the article sentence by sentence. Meanwhile, the students are asked to explain or translate some sentences to check their understanding. 1). A library is a collection of books. collection n. group of objects that have been collected systematically 一系列搜集物;收藏品 e.g. a fine collection of paintings 精美的绘画收藏品 a collection of poems 诗集 2). They are arranged in alphabetical order according to the author ’ s surname. 根据作者的姓氏,这些书按字母顺序排列。 Order n. way you place things or people 顺序;次序 e.g. He wrote the words in alphabetical order. 他按字母的先后把单词写下。 He is the tenth in order. 按顺序他是第十个。

11 2. Explanation to the article. (3) 4). ‘ Reserve ’ means ‘ order or set aside (seats, accommodation, etc.) for use by a particular person at a future time; book 预定 或保留(座位、住处等);订购 e.g. reserve tickets, rooms, couchettes 预定票、 房间、卧铺 reserve a table for two in the name of Hill 以希尔的名字预定一个双座位的桌位。

12 Step three: Vocabulary in Exercises About exercise 7, ask the students from each team to fill the blanks, and try to translate them into Chinese. As to exercise 9, ask the students to rewrite the sentences using the expressions given below. This exercise aims to check the students ’ understanding of the expressions in the box.
