2 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES CD PROJECT A Project designed to: Locate the various Papers presented at the International Rail Safety Conferences held between 1990 & 2000, Collate them into a suitable electronic format (CD) and, Produce and supply copies of the CD for the exclusive benefit of delegates.

4 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES CONCEPT The concept of producing a CD of previous IRSC Papers was identified by the Delegates at the 1999 BANFF IRSC

5 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES LONDON IRSC OUTCOME 1. Unanimous approval given on 10 November 2000 for the establishment of a CD Project Group for the coordination of the production and distribution of conference papers for the years 1990 to 2000 in a CD format

The co-ordinators of the CD Project Group authorised to co-opt other members of the conference to assist. 3. Only include papers for which agreement has been reached

15 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES THE CD WHILE EVERY EFFORT MADE TO LOCATE ALL MATERIAL, SOME ITEMS ARE NOT INCLUDED BECAUSE THEY ARE UNAVAILABLE

17 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES CD INDEXES EACH PAPER HAS A UNIQUE FOUR DIGIT NUMBER, LINKED TO EACH INDIVIDUAL YEAR OF THE IRSC For example: 9300 is the Index for the 1993 IRSC Papers 9643 is the 43rd paper at the 1996 IRSC 0007 is the 7th paper from the 2000 IRSC

26 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES CONCLUSION The IRSC CD Group having discharged its responsibilities to the best of its abilities, with all due care and attention, it believes that the final product represents a faithful and practical response to the requirements of the 2000 IRSC.

27 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES CONCLUSION The CD Project Group’s 2000 Mandate required it to:  produce the CD (done),  supply copies of the CD (so far some 85 copies have been supplied),  submit a final report (done), and  forward all surplus monies from the CD Project Group's activities to the "Railway Children Charity”. (to be actioned following the 2002 Tokyo conference)

28 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES CO-ORDINATOR’S COMMENTS HEART FELT APPRECIATION TO ALL WHO ASSISTED IN THE CD PROJECT. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING, WITHOUT THEIR ASSISTANCE THE PROJECT WOULD NOT HAVE SUCCEEDED.

30 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES MATTERS FOR RESOLUTION BY DELEGATES TO THE 2002 TOKYO CONFERENCE RECOMMENDATION 17.2.1 Authorise Transport Canada to negotiate with the relevant contributors or their respective organisations for agreement to publish on the Internet, individual papers presented at the various conferences held between 1990 and 2000 and upon receipt of such agreement, Transport Canada is authorised to publish the papers on its website (www.tc.gc.ca/railway)..www.tc.gc.ca/railway

31 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES MATTERS FOR RESOLUTION BY DELEGATES TO THE 2002 TOKYO CONFERENCE RECOMMENDATION 17.2.2 Authorise Transport Canada to publish without delay the papers presented at the 2002 Tokyo conference on its Internet website

32 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES MATTERS FOR RESOLUTION BY DELEGATES TO THE 2002 TOKYO CONFERENCE RECOMMENDATION 17.2.3 Authorise Transport Canada to publish on its website an index of the 1990 to 2000 papers contained within the IRSC CD accompanied by suitable comments regarding the availability of the CD to past and future members of the conference through the CD Project Group.

33 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES MATTERS FOR RESOLUTION BY DELEGATES TO THE 2002 TOKYO CONFERENCE RECOMMENDATION 17.2.4 Transport Canada shall ensure that, in publishing on its Internet website any papers from the various International Rail Safety conferences, the requirements of the 2000 London conference mandate regarding Copyright, Opinions and Views are met and that proper recognition of the role of the International Rail Safety Conference regarding these papers is acknowledged on the website.

34 _________________________________________________ 2002 INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY CONFERENCE CD PROJECT - REPORT FOR DELEGATES MATTERS FOR RESOLUTION BY DELEGATES TO THE 2002 TOKYO CONFERENCE RECOMMENDATION 17.2.5 Transport Canada shall provide the next International Rail Safety Conference with a report of the outcome of its activities in relation to items 17.2.1 to 17.2.4 incls.
