Emotional Turmoil and the Lies that Drive it June 30

Announcements This is not church!

Feelings “Christians may teach that expressing emotions is wrong, but they cannot support that idea from God’s word. Jesus certainly did not suppress His feelings.”

Jesus expressed his feelings on a regular basis: Mark 1:41 Mark 3:5 Mark 6:6 Mark 10:14 John 11:33-35 John 15:12

Feelings are best expressed to the Lord instead of at the person who hurt or offended the wounded person. Take the example of the Psalmist: Psalm 13 “A caregiver will serve people well whenever he helps them see that expressing emotions is not only permissible, but is a biblically correct response to life.”

Protocols In chapter 8, Terry Wardle starts to explain the protocols of Inner Healing Prayer 1. A Caregiver must encourage the broken to identify the specific lies that have compromised personal well being.

Protocols 2. A caregiver should recognize that it is not enough to simply tell a broken person the truth. They need to experience the transforming tough of the Lord.

Protocols 3. The caregiver should consider the possibility that a level of demonization has occurred as a result of the lies.

Experiential Turn our attention to God Sanctify the imagination Ask God these questions: Is there a particular situation that happened in my life that has an unhealthy emotion attached to it that I have stuffed and refused to express? Lord, please help me start to write out a lament that begins to express that emotion or emotions.

Let’s Go to Church !
