Reading Explorers, also referred to as LAP (Learning Assistance Program), is Washington’s state-funded program that provides additional academic support to eligible students. LAP funds are used first to target reading intervention for students in grades K-4. It provides supplemental reading support to selected students. All elementary schools in Issaquah receive LAP FTE. What is Reading Explorers?

Small groups of students meet for 30 minutes several days a week for Guided Reading. Students receive literacy instruction in their classrooms, as well as in Reading Explorers. Students may exit the program when based on district assessments, the student is meeting standard and no longer requires support; parent(s) request that the student be exited. Reading intervention

Get ideas for good books to read from teachers, friends, and libraries. Share reading as a family by reading together every day and talking about books. Pick fun, unusual places to read (outside in a tree house, in a fort with pillows in the family room, etc.). Young readers enjoy funny stories and books that present new and interesting information. Find books that match your reader’s interests. Invite your reader to choose books. Stay positive and give encouragement. A Few Ways to Motivate Your Reader at Home Source: The Parent Institute
