2 Forty two years ago Lacovia Junior Secondary School opened its doors on the seventh of September, 1970. The school, sited on ten acres of land which was purchased from the Lewis’ family, was built to accommodate 650 students in three basic grades- 7, 8, and 9.

3 Past Principals of Lacovia High School From its inception to date, Lacovia High has had seven principals: Mrs. V. M. Falkner 1970–1977 Mr. A.J. Farquharson 1977–1985 Mr. M. L. Dodd 1985–1994 Mrs. M. L. Samuel 1994–1996 Mr. Curlew Williams 1996–2003 Mrs. Ruby Whyte 2003–2010 Mrs. Hope Morgan 2010-present

6 ACADEMICS Grades 7 – 11 Lacovia High School has undergone several transitions since its inception in 1970 to the present, moving from junior secondary to secondary, comprehensive high and now to its present status of a high school. These changes brought their own challenges: Amidst these challenges the institution has cultivated a rich tradition in education. Students have excelled academically, performing creditably in external examinations. Students have also excelled in extra-curricular activities including 4-H, Da-Costa Cup and Science Competitions.

7 With an academic staff complement of over 73 highly trained and diligent teachers on two shifts, the student population now stands at over 1500, with students coming from almost every community in St. Elizabeth and the neighboring parishes of St. James, Manchester and Westmoreland.
