3 Some creative thinking prompts – can you add your own? Different time, different place A flaw / a neurosis or quirk A burden / secret Make them bigger / smaller Make them the opposite of what they are Disability? Different race or culture Gay, lesbian? Make them old / young Change gender – female, male transgender? A faith, religion A talent or gift A habit / addiction

4 Activity: Using creative thinking prompts, change three things about your character to get rid of cliché and make them even more interesting Assessment: All learners feedback to the group, all learners and tutor give each other ideas on how to give the character that ‘wow’ factor Reflection & Recording: Learners make brief notes on the feedback discussed, stating what they will do next to improve their character even more and the main things learned from the lesson

Make two markers on each line, one to show your knowledge at the beginning of the lesson and the other your knowledge at the end of the lesson

There will be originality and no cliché. The learner will have a good idea what to do to improve Established learners will produce a well formed character with minimum help and support. Character will have some depth & complexity, with familiar attributes and some originality. There will be minimum cliché. The learner will have some idea how to improve Emerging learners will produce a character outline with support and help. The beginnings of an identity will be forming through familiar features and attributes. The character may have cliché Where are you along the arrow? Tutor and learner both assess learner

7 Learning can be achieved & observed in a short time. Can be done in one lesson, in a segment of a lesson, in half an hour Recording can be simple and rapid, saving work not making work With insight into the subject and being clear what we want learners to learn, they can be given advice on how to develop, easily and effectivel y Equalities and diversity can enhance the subject and be a resource
